hey everyone.....i am new to the world of kershaw's.......here's my dilema...i don't know which one to get.....i am hoping you guys can help me out....i am interested in a kershaw obviously with the following..:
1)speedsafe opening
2)either a vg-10 blade or 13c26 or s30v(wish i could get that zdp)
3)blade length isn't that important...between 3 and 4 inches or so is fine..

i was looking to spend under 100 dollars....i am not a big fan of curved blades so knives like the boa's are out.....i don't know why i don't like those curves....i was looking at the following knives:
1)the lahar vg10
2)the blur s30v
3)needs work folder(not sure if it has speedsafe option)
4)junkyard dog folder(not sure about speedsafe)
5)cyclone

i am open to any opinions you have...does anybody have first hand experience with any of these....thanks for your opinions......ryan

Take a look at the Leek line. Its my favorite knife and has been my edc for over a year.

i saw a leek for sale in sv30 but it didn't say it was assisted opening.....are some models of kershaw knives standard with the ao.....which ones are and aren't......ryan....i do like the looks of the leek....thanks

The Lahar and JYD are flippers not speed safe. I like the Needs Work. It has Speed Safe. The blade is sandvik 13C26 and the blade shape is dandy for doing all kinds of things, plus it is tough as nails. Finally the 30 ish dollar pricetag allows you to get a feel for Kershaw as a brand without spending a bundle. Good Luck

The Lahar, JYD and Groove have a system that works off leverage. The Speedsafe system uses a torsion bar. I hear the flipper is nearly as fast as the Speed Safe and the lock up is strong just no torsion bar.

good to know that....i wasn't aware there was more than one system.....thanks for the input...ryan

You can get any Leek except the ZDP for less than $100. I recommend the Random Leek when they are available.

The Random Leek is the top left knife. Reverse Tanto S30V blade with Frame Lock and Speedsafe. Street price around $80 probably. The second photo is of the new Chromium Nitride coating and the new serration design.

I was gifted a Cyclone (not the TiZDP, already got one!) for picking out a birthday present for BIL. Selected the Cyclone (she wanted to keep the price around $ 50 or so) and I must say I'm very impressed with this knife. Not the ZDP, but still, a LOT of knife for the money...That and the Leek would be my top two choices, in that order.

does anybody have any recomendations for dealers of kershaw knives online that are reputable......thanks.....ryan

thanks for all the replies....i bought a need work little folder for myself to try out....can't wait.....on a side note..what do you guys think about the different steels kershaw uses......ie-zdp,s30v,13c26,etc.....do you guys have any preferences.....ryan

I'd reverse the S30V and the 13C26...seems I can get and maintain a sharper edge with the 13C26 than the S30V...Just my opinion...

One to avoid at all costs is The Blade Shop in Tennessee...there's a 9 or 10 page thread on them and their rip-off tactics.

New Graham is good, and I've also been successful (price, communication and shipping) with http://www.soonerstateknives.com and http://www.knifecenter.com out of Baltimore, MD.

For the love of Pete, DO NOT do any business with http://www.thebladeshop.com
