Here's one I finished up today. It's a little rough and has some minor problems, blade play in the lock, wrong sized screws here and there, etc. But it was my very first attempt and, by golly, it actually works!. The design is a folding 5 in 1 painter's knife. I added an extra chisel ground edge on the side for scraping and also a bottle opener for when the day is finished.

Because this was designed to be painter's tool I decided to make it to be abused and not worry about mirror polishes on the blade. The steel is O1 with a home heat treatment. The liners are 304 stainless and the handles are G10 with a carbon fiber laminate. I probably will add a clip later.

Thats what I love about making knives. Have you EVER seen something liek that in a store? NEVER!!!!

What grit is the finish on your knife?

I agree! Kudos Peter, for thinking "outside the box". Never before seen anything like this before! How do you you think the CF/G-10 scales will hold up to harsh chemicals like paint thinner? Great job!

Thanks for the nice comments guys. This was a good first project for me and I really learned a lot.

The blade finish is just 100 grit. I think the handle material will stand up well to chemicals although I don't think it will see too much of that. The truth is after 15 years in the business I have developed a deep hatred of painting and tend to stick mostly with wallpaper. Still, the piece will come in handy for those odd painting assignments.

On to real knife blades!

Hey Pete,
The 5 in 1 looks great! When could we get together so I could sheck it out.

One day in the far future somebody is going to find that knife in a box in an antique store and buy it and not know what the heck its for. And he will probably be on some sort of computer asking people if they have ever seen one before.
Anyway just like to say nice job! And you know it will happen.
