Hi All,
Going to Blade show tomorrow and my schedule left it so that I was unable to make it to the PO in time to over night the knives. Anyone out there still flying with their knives? I know I have to declare them. I called the Airlines but I would hate to get stopped, strip searched and interrogated for hours though I did as the Airlines required. That would suck indeed! Let me know, thanks....Rich

I haven't had any problems bringing my knives as part of my luggage. I did the Sprit of Steel show about 2 weeks after 911 and called the airport to find out if there would be a problem and they said as long as I had paper saying I was doing a show that would be good enough. You can buy an FAA approved lock which helps for some peace of mind. They should have some at your airport. I did the Vegas Show with now problem what so ever in January of this year. Hope this helps.....

Pheeeeew! Traveled with them and no worries. Thank goodness they were safe. I was worried I'd be outta some serious moolah! Thanks guys :D

Sure, and so far with no probems at all.
Just packed and shipped through my knives to and from the BLADE Show.
TSA did inspect going and coming home (added 25 lbs of brass, 5 lbs of 416 pin material in bundles, some ivory, pearl, jigged bone and a small anvil, thankfully a lot fewer knives than going, for the homebound trip, stuff that would make an Xray operator go, "Huh?")). I use a bright colored cable tie to "lock " my suitcase figure if TSA cuts it and inspects and replaces it with one of theirs, at least it is "locked" the rest of the time...well apparently they have a tool that unlocks a cable tie and allows them to relock it as they did that ...fine with me.
99.9% of the TSA folks seem to really be wanting to do the best job they can. I've had the "pleasure" of dealing with them with no problem. I've delt with 1 in Bangor Maine who took advantage of my error of not shipping through a pair of fishing pliers to, as he virtually admitted, steal them from me for his own use....and 1 in Atlanta yesterday that got silliy about Xraying my flip-flops and telling me to either put my socks on or put them through Xray also...I put them on my hands and went through the gate.
She didn't know whether to smile or be tough, so she just let this "tired old horse" alone , figuring I was just obstinate or a bit silly, and she was right.
By the way, my knives are all folders, linerlocks or slipjoints, and no serrated blades, no tactical styles, so an inspection would indicate they look non-threatening by most standards.

I bubble wrapped everything up and put it in checked luggage with no problems...even forgot to put my TSA approved lock on it and it went through. I actually walked through the atlanta security with my belt (metal buckle) on and the brass lockw/keys in my pocket and didn't even get a blip.
I was nervous about the knives once I found the lock in my pocket in the denver airport...no problems tho.

On the way back I watched the TSA guys xray the case and the guy wasn't even looking at my stuff. I could see the whole shabang, every shape and size. But just then right as the case left the xray, he got a quick glimpse but didn't flinch at all. Right then there was another dealer who had his stuff xrayed and inside the glass display case and the cops opened up the case and started going thru his zipper pouches searching for something in particular. My guess was they saw an automatic or Ivory? I got lucky all was pretty smooth. THey did break the fragile tape and look inside but everything was there. :D
