Anyone know the knife carry law in Idaho
I am new to this whole "freedom" thing. The more I learn, the more I want to do may part. Soooooooooo......I am thinking about starting by carrying a knife. Can anyone help me out with this?????

I would like to carry some sort of conceled fix blade if I can. What is the law for this in Idaho? If not then I need to get my CCW license. I plan on getting a handgun someday soon, but until then......a knife will have to do.

Also, does anyone use the old Black Talon ammo? I have a case of 45 ACP I bought about 5 years ago. (got a good deal from a friend but never bought the gun) I would be willing to get rid of it for a nice profit. Maybee even a trade for a nice knife or something.

Sniper Dude,
Go online to your state goverment website all the states
general statutes will be there.

I've got to tell you that in most states a CCW license does not give you the right to carry a concealed knife, only a gun. Pretty stupid, but that is the way it is. The only state that I have heard of that seems to be an exception to this is Florida.

Idaho does not issue a Concealed Carry Weapons, CCW, License. They issue a Concealed Handgun License, CHL. That license extends only to handguns. Some states issue a Concealed Firearms License, CFL, that extends to rifles etc. How do I know? Oregon and Idaho have very, very similar laws in this area. They were deliberately made that way and are so similar that Washington and Oregon were to first two states in the Union to establish a reciprocal agreement.

Here's an interesting fact: my Oregon driver's license is recognized and valid in every state of the union. It wasn't this way back in the early days. If I wanted to drive the old Model T up to Washington, aside from figuring out how to get it across the Columbia river, I'd need to get a Washington Driver's license. Why? Because Washington didn't recognize Oregon's driver's licenses. Why did that change? Because of some federal law? No. Because Oregon has established a reciprocal agreement, essentially a treaty, with every other state in the union to recognize each other's driver's licenses. Fortunately for us today, all fifty states have now established reciprocal agreements with all other states.

Right now, I'm aware that Oregon has reciprocal CHL agreements with two states: Idaho and Tennessee. We have a limited agreement with Washington under which Oregon residents can apply for a WA license submitting their Oregon license as proof of qualification and be issued their WA license without any extensive investigations or having to take any further classes (I do have to pay Washington their fee). Washington residents can similarly obtain Oregon licenses on a similar basis.

Here's an important fact: in most states, you will automatically loose your CCW/CHL/CFL if you are convicted of ANY weapons-related violation. Illegally carrying a knife would be a weapons-related violation. So, if you are a CCW/CHL/CFL holder, you need to be especially careful about what knife you carry and how you carry it.

Chuck,

There is also something else that exists in Maryland Law and I imagine there has to be at least a few other States that are this way.

In Maryland's Deadly Weapons litany of things you are not supposed to carry, at the end, there is an exemption for any Police Officer, Railway Agent or Constable or one visiting the State on official business or passing through it.

Specifically anything from Bowie Knives to Brass Knuckles, Switchblades to Nunchaku and Throwing Stars, everything after that is exempt to those individuals and anyone that has obtained a Handgun Carry Permit in the State.

Interesting.

I do understand what you are saying though and it is sound advice. I would just advise everyone to see if there is such an exemption and just because it is there...also...does not mean you will not go to jail if you get caught with something that is "naughty."

Technically speaking, it appears that a Liquor Store Owner in Maryland that has the Carry Permit and it is not a CHL or CCW, it is totally different here, would be able to carry a concealed Bowie Knife if they chose to do so because they would be in that exempt category.

Da laws iz wacky. :D

BTW, Chuck, I'm thinking of polluting your State with my future Residency, is that Washington State Permit you obtain merely a card that you carry with the Oregon CHL or a full blown, Photo I.D. CHL like you possess in Oregon?

It's a separate full-blown photo card. If I got to Idaho, I don't need anything else. My Oregon card works just fine. The big thing that Washington wants is, of course, your money.

Oregun is an interesting state. It's simultaneously one of the most liberal and one of the most conservative states out there. It is a state of interesting, diverse, and dynamic climates.

There's a rumor that it rains a lot in parts of this state. That's not true. Here in the Portland area, it only rains once per year. Of course, it starts in September or October and doesn't stop until April or May, but it's really just one continuous rain shower.

Anyway, I'd be happy to talk to you about Oregun if you like.

Why, Chuck, the way you are spelling Oregon is quite cute and indicative of a nice place to live. Sort of like Florida being called, "The Gunshine State." :D

E-mail me your Tel# and I shall call or...you may route an L.D. my way.

I spoke to Angie at BM Warranty/Repair yesterday, as you told me to do months ago...nice Lady and very helpful, by the way...
