Beautiful craftmanship! I have a couple of
similar items called "ciupaga" by the
Polish people. Is this of similar ethnic origin?

I AM NO EXPERT BUT, I WOULD SAY YES. I BECAME INTERESTED IN THIS AFTER READING A KNIVES 2002 ARTICLE BY JOSEPH SZILASKI, "A SHARP FOKOS MAKES THE TRIP A LITTLE SMOOTHER". ACCORDING TO THE ARTICLE I WOULD SAY IT'S AN ALL OVER EUROPEAN TOOL, INCLUDING POLAND.

Children are still given wooden "Fokos" in hungarian schools. Although, you aren't supposed to carry a fokos made of anything harder then brass anymore. Too many bad "incident's" I should talk to szilaski about one...I only live fifteen minutes from him.;)

Excellent work! Nice polish & engraving (contrast).
