Folder Mechanisms and patents

Out of the common folder opening systems, the thumb hole, disc, stud, etc. Which ones are patented? Do you have to obtain a "license" or permission to use any of these opening devices?

In terms of the locking systems available, which ones are patented? Is the liner lock "patented"? I know that the Axis, and Crawfords systems are apparently licensed, but what about more common locking systems ie liner lock, or even Microtech's HALO OTF system, Socom DA system, etc. What would actually constitute a copyright enfringement??

Most all I hear in the industry is heresay.
I would consult each company to see if there is a copyright on each item.
The one I know of is the locking liner. I think the NAME (tm liner lock) Mike Walker is trade marked. As for the lock itself the heresay is no.. The others I dont know.
