Bob: a show or two back in New York you mentioned the possibility of building a folding sword...

Any progress?

Oh please...PLEASE...-=P=L=E=A=S=E=- build a folding sword?

PLEASE?

I mean...hang a thumbstud off it, it'd be street-legal in CA!

See, we have all these absolute turds of Sheriffs and PD Chiefs that illegally, unconstitutionally deny us CCW permits. We -=NEED=- to flip them a giant finger by carrying folding -=SWORDS=-!

Please?

Laci Szabo has a biiiiig folder, but the tip sticks out of the handle when closed, probably making it "capable of ready use as a stabbing weapon" even when closed.

So make the blade fully enclosed in the handle when folded. Ha, haaa!

You know a folder with a 10" blade and a two-handed, 12" handle, just might work. In fact, it just might be very cool. Ooooooo.

Yeah, that Szabo folder has a 7" blade. Really sweet looking, but expensive...

25" grip, 21" blade...now we're talkin'.

Yes, I'd buy one!

I belive your refering to the WakaTan, which is still in the works. We are still in the patent process (long story there). The folding knife concept is far from being new like the pocket clip and the opening hole were not new patentable innovations. Bob Brothers has an old Bowie which does exactly that from a short knife to a oh my god knife with a snap of the wrist. The lock is what is new. The Stud Lock locks the knife closed and open. The WakaTan will be available in two sizes in all probability. Small productions D-2 Steel more in a month or so.

Any idea on what this bit of edged goodness will cost us all? Under 250 and I'm in.

Bless you, Bob. I've marked down the dates for the November show in NYC. Hope you have wrestled the patent office to the ground by then!

Under $500 and I'm in, depending on length of course. For $500 I'd hope for an 18" blade minimum

Jim,

23" handle!? that would be enough room for both of your hands and both hands of the guy trying to disarm you. You're thinking outside the atmosphere that surrounds the box. I respect that.

Bob,

Do I correctly deduce from what you said that the WakaTan will have exposed blade in the closed position, and will therefore by legal in open carry only in CA (heaven forbid)?

Steve, there's been lots of historical weapons that feature a grip as long as the blade...the Zulu short leaf-bladed spear comes to mind.

A folding sword with a grip a hair longer than the blade would call for some real weird techniques. Among other issues, choke way back on it and "power swing it", and if they're too close you'll just bludgeon 'em instead of cutting.

Kewl! They're gonna feel it regardless.

What you've missed is that, say you've got one hand on either end of the grip...if some fool grabs the middle, it hardly matters - you've got "leverage from hell" and as long as you twist the blade in towards the arm(s) trying to hang onto the grip (or his neck...), well, they can TRY and snatch it but what happens next will be fugly

Jim,

I didn't mean to imply that I didn't think it would be really b!tchin' or even a bad idea. I've got a Black Cloud Short Sword that really isn't too far off from those specks, I think is has a 18" blade and a 10" handle. Versatility abounds with it.

I am sure a weapon with the dimensions you proposed would be formidable. But would the concealability issue still pertain with a 20" folded length? Concealability, due to foldability might be beside the point at that length?

Think Kydex shoulder rig under your right armpit, under a trench coat

Seriously now: just the thing for late nights in the big city. If you're facing down four homicidal transvestites with hammers that want to kill the guy behind you on the subway, and you're objecting to this, a Sifu-class blade is better than nothing but...would you prefer to pop out something that opens to around 40" overall instead of 12"...?

HELL ya. And I've been there, done that, with a Sifu-class piece (AlMar QSV 5.5" linerlock). They blinked...barely. I'm 6'4", 280lbs...that probably made up the difference, not that size matters much in a knife fight

Well, let me just put it this way: I am a little skeptical, but would be extremely eager to try out a prototype.
