Followup to small Sebenza?

I don't know exactly why, but I feel like I should have a small custom folder to alternate as an EDC to my small Sebenza.

I'm eyeing the Kit Carson small model 4 and/or a 3" Dozier folder.

Any thoughts on either, or something I might be overlooking? I like some Peter Marzitelli knives as well, but they seem tougher to come by, and I'm not sure they're in the same category...?

Mike

P.S. I'm thinking 3" blade max for EDC.

You have excellent taste in knives

I have 2 carsons and they're just about the nicest folders I've ever used. I have also been eyeing the Dozier tab locks.

Just to add one more to the two you mentioned: Darrel Ralph's EDC.

The Dozier Tab Stop is a nice little knife, very stout, nice if you find the small Sebenza too slim.

But by all means, shouldn't everyone own a Carson?

Mike,
Same thought here.

I have carried Large Sebenza, small Sebenza, Darrel EDC CF, as my daily carry.
Now I'm waiting for my Carson small model 4, the sweet knife will arrive in one week.

Just to add to the confusion, take a look at Greg Lightfoot's work as well. His LCC is nice. Keith Coleman also makes some very nice knives in this size range and his prices are hard to beat. Check them out @ www.colemanmade.com

Hey Michael, I've contacted Darrel with in the last couple of weeks and he can make his CF EDC's in a 3" blade. I'm looking to replace my Seb with a custom as well. I also have a 3" Mayo TNT on the way from another forum member (thanks David

Good luck, have fun,

I will also suggest the Tom Mayo TNT. If you like your small Sebenza you'll love the TNT. Same super strong frame lock as the Sebenza. The titanium scales are rounded as opposed to the flat slabs of the Sebbie. The finish on the titanium is a fine bead blast that resists scratches better than the standard Sebenza finish (I had Tom re-finish my large, plain Sebenza with his bead blast). And the best part...The Talonite blade! Talonite keeps a cutting edge for a very long time and is completely worry free. Talonite will not rust! I feel that the Sebenza is the finest production folder made. The Mayo TNT is the logical evolution to a custom.

Phil Boguszewski does some nice work. I have one of his pieces, I think it's called the 'Belladonna' - hollow-ground stainless damascus blade (just a hair over 3"), textured titanium handles, and a beefy midlock. It's a beatutiful knife, and not 'agressive' looking.

Email me for pics - the ones I have are too big to post (around 400K)

My advice would be Kit Carson's small Model 4 or Tom Mayo's TNT. Both are great choices and a must have!

Another great knife that is more or less in the 3" range is the Lightfoot LCC. The LCC is my EDC and for my purposes it is about perfect. It is a bigger knife than a small sebenza but is considerably smaller than a Ralph EDC.

I've got a Tom Anderson custom on the way as well. His work is gorgeous. I'm considering a TNT next.

Another great maker of framelocks that is not often mentioned is Rob Davidson. His integral tactical fighter is very sweet and although it is a bit bigger than the small Seb, it fits your hand like a glove. He also does heat coloring and uses some incredible overlays. http://www.rocketknives.com

Yeah, I _really_ like that one as well. For some reason $475 seems like WAY more money than the $375 I was expecting to pay for the small model 4.

Dunno, but at this point in my life $475 seems like too much to spend on a pocket knife, while $375 is not that big a deal.

Dunno. Doesn't make much sense when I actually say it...

I sure am a sick puppy. One of each of the above would be a fantastic start

.

If I was being held over a fire to decide on one, I think I would still want them all until it began to get pretty hot.

Mike,

I have the answer; sell the plain small and get a small wood inlay Sebenza.

You won't regret it.
