Does your wife give you any grief over not wearing your wedding ring?

Seems pretty common for makers especially to not be able to wear theirs. I doubt I could even get mine on my fat finger now since I haven't had it on in years  but even if I could I can't wear it when I work and can barely tolerate it or any jewlery when I'm not working. How bout you?

I used to be a butcher many moons ago and once my wedding band probably kept the band saw from cutting my finger off. I keep it on my keyring now and she understands. 26 yrs and counting.

I work with my hands a fair amount, but, not as much as a knife maker would. I found that the only ring I could stand is a 6mm titanium band with the rolled smooth edges and about 1/2 size larger than my finger It gives my finger room to breathe and allows the ring to move with my hand and it is very light. The real bonuses are that it keeps my wife off my butt:eek:, and they cost 80 bucks so if destroy or lose it I can always get another.

I forgot to add:

My parents have been married for 27 years and neither of them wears a ring. I suspect they had them at one point but I'd imagine they were lost long ago and neither of them seems to have any issue with it. I guess it's kinda nice when 2 adults can reach an agreement over such a (trivial) hot button issue.:D

April and I have been married for 26 years and together for 27 plus. I have not even worn my band since probably at around the 7 year mark. I believe I weighed in at all of 160 pounds when I wore it last. That was 50 pounds ago at least. :D I seriously doubt it would fit now even if I could find it! I better find it though. April wanted the good ones. It has like 5 diamonds in it. Its here somewhere. I can tell you where every gun and every bullet is in the house as well as most all the knives I use or appreciate. Somehow, and sadly I lost track of that gold band though. Been casually looking for it since my first post. But no luck so far.

Steve---No ring for me anymore. I just don't like wearing rings. My sweetie is cool with it. I wear my wedding ring around my heart! ;)

Yeah, my wife gave me some issues over not wearing mine at first but somehow through time she has gotten over it and did a complete 180. She doesn't wear hers much anymore either. Doesn't bother me in the least though.

I found my ring finally. I can still get it on. Well, my pinky anyway. :D

I stuck it where I would remember where it was of course. Hanging on the inside of of my bedroom lockbox with some keys. The keys were covering it up so I missed seeing it first time there looking.

Married 37 years and can't remember when I stoppedwearing it!! I can't stand rings on my finger. I have two wedding rings( wife bought another pair) both in my jewelry box. Don't even wear my gold class ring ! She does ask about the rings though from time to time! Funny!

I never take mine off. I wear 2 rings. My wedding band and a signet ring my wife gave me our first Christmas after getting married. 30 years this Sept. and have only taken it off when I got elbow surgery. It isn't a problem while doing knife work. I've worked with my hands all my life and wore rings.

I've been married 3 years and probably only wear my wedding band a handful of times a year. Usually at weddings, or other things where old girlfriends will be. I always wear it the first couple of days when I start a new semester at school. My wife kids me about it, but she's cool with the fact that I don't like to wear any jewelry. (No watch, rings, earrings, etc...)

I understand that. I tried to tell the wife before we got married that I just didn't wear much more than a pocket knife and didn't even need a band for myself but she wouldn't hear of that. No watch, no necklace or rings. I'm just not a jewelry or bling kind of guy I guess. If we could symbolize our bond with a good folding knife hey I'm in though! :D Pretty sad I know. A dolled up folder with some file work and a jeweled thumb stud is as close to any bling as I want to get though. :p

rings are dangerous in a workshop, too catchy

I know a guy who's ring got hooked on a running engine and it stripped all the skin off his finger so the doctors cut a slot in his stomach skin and stuck his skinned finger in there untill months later they were able to cut the stretched stomach skin(now growing on his finger) off his stomach and sewing both the finger and the stomach back up-looks a little different as you might imagine-he now makes all his family cut a slot in their rings so the ring will bend open if caught.

Been married for 12 years now....wore my ring at first (until my fingers got too fat :foot: )

She got me another ring....wore that for a long time....then stopped.

My problem isn't worrying about my ring getting caught in equipment....my problem is that I get dust under it....I am always washing my hands a lot....I bump up against stuff all the time...

When I pull my ring off...it ain't pretty. :barf:

I used to get grief about it early on....but when I showed her my ring finger afterwards...she understood.

To make up for it, I kept it displayed for a while...and also kept it on a key ring sometimes...

Fortunately, she understands and is cool with it.

Dan

p.s. I'll ask her for her version...gimme a sec...:p

wife says

"I haven't thought about that for years..."

:D

I guess it doesn't bother her....*shrug*...

She says she would be more irritated if I wore it and then sometimes took it off.

oh....and she IS irritated about one thing regarding my ring...she wants to know why I won't go in and pawn it for some cash.

:foot:

Right now gold is selling for some big bucks so if your ring is a big one it may lead to a nice pay day!

I ran printing presses for 12 years or so. I never wore it at work. I kept forgetting it and leaving it at work. My wife is not so forgiving. She would get a bit annoyed. I am not sure what she thought would happen.

I changed carreers and now I have worked a desk for 15 years or so. I wore that original band every day for years never taking it off. My finger eventually swelled up so that I couldn't get it off. Our jeweler had a tool for cutting them off and they told me I needed the manager there to do it. I finally tracked him down and he said they no longer offered that service. I went out into the garage one evening and took a bolt cutters and snipped it off. Pretty soft so it cut like butter. I should have checked in a hospital emergency room. I understand that they sometimes need to cut rings from accident victims.

I went for about a year without one and the wife nagged me every chance she got. One day we were at the mall and she steered us to the jeweler and we bought a moderately expensive band. One of the thick ones with the beveled insind edges that is supposed to be comfortable. She is happy but this ring is annoyingly thick.

I also know a fellow who got his hand pulled into a large sheetfed 40" Heidelberg printing press. his fingers went in but his ring stopped the rest of his hand and arm from being crushed.

I have a hard time wearing jewelry although I can wear a watch and a neck knife.
If I was married I probably would not wear the band on my finger but I would definitely keep it on my person.
