I know there are not alot of Hartsfield fans on this forum but I know there are some. Well anyway Hartsfield posts usually start some commotion. I am a big Phill fan and have known him for almost 20 some years. I have never gotton a Phill from anybody but Phill but Dave from Nordic knives was kind enough to sell me this vintage Force lll. I called Phill and because of the markings on the blade he was able to track it back to the exact order form and is sending me a copy of it. The blade is 28 years old and is one of the first Force lll's that Phill ever made.It had a small crack in the handle coming from the front pin. I fixed that crack and you can see where it was from a little glue left on ricasso of blade. I have since cleaned off the glue and you can hardly see where the crack was and would never notice unless you knew. The blade is like new and after a quick clean up and a light wick down a jewel stik It is like new and scary sharp. It has one of his early leather sheath's and I will be sending it out for a new one. Phill has offered to make a new metal lined sheath for it and I will send it to him when he has the time. Mr. Long will get it first for a little Paul love. People can say what they want about Phill's finishes but they sure are easy to clean up and ya do not have to be afraid of really using it. Well thanks for looking.

Joe, while it aint my style, I can see you really like it, and that's what matters.
How many Hartsfields do you have?

I cannot wait to see what Paul Long comes up with.
That guy is something else :D

Hey Ebbtide how are you. Don't get me wrong it is a ugly knife but it is a serious knife in the hand. And I love the maker very good man. With this one five knives and three swords. Keep in touch 610 657 9515

Yep,some knives get a lukewarm reception around here.
Lots of reasons,I guess, anywho, wasn't familiar with Hartsfields until the last year and don't own any but I like what I've seen.
Nice score and good job on the crack.
Is it A2,Joe ?
Can't wait to see it after ya' get it back from Mr. Long.
Congrats!

I don't know about ugly, but it certainly is different from from the antique bowie alley that I frequent.
I did see Mr. Hartsfield doing a little sharpness demo at my first knife show...I was very impressed.

Ebbtide I like classic bowie's probally the most. I am not into the tactical stuff but I do have a fondnes for Hartsfield and his work.

STeven and Les where are ya. I would be disappointed if you did not break my balls a little bit. Screw that Kumbaya stuff.

Haul out the Swords for a pic
Nordic sometimes have some good prices on Phils Knives
I have a Kwaiken I took delivery on a couple years ago Its stout and Sharp
Phil was a really easy and soft spoken.

I'm not going to break your balls...I don't care for the knife, but it makes you happy, and I'm not going to piss on that...

Part of the dislike is political, and part is disbelief.

The political part on BladeForums for the 2 years that I was lurking before signing up, and since, is that the MO generally goes like.... some "unknown poster" who has established no history here will start a thread like "Hartsfield...what do you think?" and two or more people who a) only own Hartsfield stuff or b) like the stuff, but will never own it, because it is too expensive go "OHHHHHH.....awesome!!!" with virtual high fives all around...and then some "not lovin" Forumite says, "well, I don't really dig his stuff, and it is kind of expensive"...and the flame war is on....not to mention that the anonymity of the Forums allows any number of acolytes to post without accountability.

Doug Castor(DougC) got to experience it with Shiva Ki stuff, David(2knife) got it with Fowler, RL got it with Strider... and a bunch of people, including you, got it with Hartsfield...doesn't make it right, but it is the way it is, especially when the individuals start getting defensive, and lobbing bombs, which just fans the flames even higher.

You know the disbelief part, already....

You have patiently and steadfastly established yourself on the Forums, so if you want to have an entire thread dedicated to Hartsfield work, than you will be met with the least hostility ever generated concerning the subject, like probably none...but Les still might break your balls.:D

Sorry to let you down on the ball breaking thing.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Jparane---Thanks for the pics. It's a Hartsfield and it's a nice blade, in my eye. I love his blades. Back in the 80's, I received a Katana, Aikuchi, Kwaiken and sold my Kozuka. Leu Custom replaced the Kozzie and that blade is Right-There! Phill is a sweet man. We go way back. Thank you for your post.

Hey Joe, congrats on the score. Not my style of knife either but it has a good story and is a worthy addition to your collection.
