forge welding temp

I have heard lots about how the flux acts, the color of the billet. But has anyone actually taken a temp reading in there forge to find minimum, maximun or optimal forge welding temp.

I am welding 52100 and 5160 at 2300 F it seems to work ok. But is it to hot?
