Here's one I just finished.

The blade is forged 1095 with differential heat treatment, etched and handrubbed to 1200 grit. I gave it a stainless steel guard, wrought iron ferrule, and stabilized russian olive handle. The blade is in the neighborhood of 13 inches and overall length is about 18 inches. It makes cool "schwing" noises when you swing it around. :)

I drew some inspiration for this knife from Brion Tomberlin's persian fighters, as well as few german hunting swords I've seen. I also threw in a little japanese DNA for good measure.

The thermal cycling brought out some cool alloy banding.

The russian olive is a nice warm brown that compliments the cool greys and whites nicely. It feels pretty good in the hand too.

Thanks for indulging me. :)

Derrick - that thing flat out rocks. I remembered the mostly-finished blade from the hammer-in and hoped I'd get to see the completed knife before long. It finished up REAL nice. Wiked fighter.

Great intimidation factor! Nice work. I think that one could win "Best Fighter" at most shows.

Too frigg'n cool my friend!!! :D

You know I fell in love with the blade when you showed it to me before.

Wielding it around your shop in July I was going around blabbering to everyone how cool it was and what a great job you had done on the heat-treat.

It is SOOO COOL to see it all put together!!!

I love the lines, I love the hamon, love the handle. Very impressive Derrick!

I know you're a lot like me in the knifemaking department.... agonize over the little details, and expect heavenly lights and harp music upon completion. Well, I should expect that you heard the music on this one :cool:

That gave me the SHWING sensation also. I like that Russian olive too. First time I have seen it. Like Koa crossed with Maple.

Thanks fellas

There are a few things about this knife that I wish I had done a little differently or a little better, but then I suppose I'll probably feel that way about every one I make. Besides, this one's probably a fair bit better than my first few. On to the next one...

Dagum thats a big blade. I really like the looks of that knife, it definatley has alot of cool factor in it.
