Just to check. I posted yesterday about a nice deal I found on a Spyderco Impala. I just wanted to share it with my fellow Spydernuts, some of whom might have wanted to pick up one as well.

Today, the post is gone. G-O-N-E, as though it never existed. Which makes me wonder if I violated some sort of forum policy.

I am not affiliated with the seller I mentioned, and I've repeatedly seen such posts about good deals in the five years I've been posting to BF. I've been alerted to good deals, and I've passed along information about the same. In fact, I bought my first Spyderco because someone posted about Standard and Rookie clearances at SMKW.

Are those kind of posts now taboo?

I think some people get all cranky about it because they fear a wave of people who "find" things for sale (which are actually their own and they want free advertising). I can understand that I guess, but I still post about things I spot myself sometimes if I think it's worth mentioning.

That's sort of what I figured too, Carl. I did explicitly state in the post that I wasn't connected to the seller in any way (other than being an addicted customer), but I suppose I wasn't taken at my word.

It's too bad if such posts are summarily dismissed and deleted. Good deals are sometimes what get people hooked on Spydercos in the first place. Five years ago, I bought a Standard and a Rookie because of great prices. Eventually sold the Rookie, but I still have that PE Standard, and I've owned more Spydercos than I can count since then. Still have 8 or 9 Spydies that "stuck" and that float into my pocket rotation from time to time.

At any rate, I'm looking forward to the Impala getting here in time for fall deer season.

Are you absolutely sure you posted it? I ask because there have been a few times I've hit Preview instead of Post, then left the forum, only to wonder later where my thread or reply went. Thing is, unless policy has changed, i don't recall ever seeing a thread physically removed by the moderators on BladeForums. Locked yes. Edited down to nothing and locked, yes. Moved to W&C, yes. Disappeared, no.

Auction and deal spotting is not allowed on BFC. This policy was set by Spark. If you have any questions regarding this policy please post them in Service & Support. And your threads have not been locked or moved. I was able to find them in Blade Discussion and Spyderco Forums but be prepared to see those threads edited and/or locked for deal spotting.

No arguments here. Just wanted clarification. It's Spark's board, and I suppose he doesn't like it when some folks post about prices that beat those of 1SKS. Kind of a downer since folks enjoy a good deal, but the policy makes sense from an owner/operator perspective.

Okay, this is weird. A post I made a looong time ago about clearance deals on Spyderco Temperances has suddenly shown up in the threads on the Spyderco forum--noting that it's been moved to "The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly." I made that post way back in March. What's going on???

My post about the Impalas was just two days ago. That post, btw, is nowhere to be found.

Needless to say, I won't be sharing the news of any more deals with the folks here in the Spyderco forum. Obviously, I've raised a hackle or two.

You didn't raise any hackles. You broke a rule and it was handle accordingly by the Mods. ;)

Look on the bright side  Guyon, BladeForums must be running smooth as glass if the mods have the time and energy to resurect a five month old thread just to move it. :D

Well put, Deacon.

K.V., I'm not upset about anything, and I wasn't under the impression that I had really raised the ire of anyone here. Just being a little hyperbolic. Like I said, Spark's board, Spark's rules.

Here's a question though: If there is a hard and fast rule about no deal spotting, then why *are* such posts just moved to another forum? Seems like folks would simply visit "The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly" (hmmm... where do I fall? ) in order to look for clearance and sale announcements. Do you fellows take out any mention of businesses/vendors that aren't 1SKS?

Oh, and can I post about deals that involve 1SKS? :D

...said the man with the "hottie" avatar.

Seriously, though, it was nice meeting you at Blade, Ken. I guess I'd better dump a lot more into the BladeForums pot before I take any specific issues with Kevin's decisions.
