I understand the rule on asking a value on a knife you buy if not a gold member. My question is this; Does this rule on apply to stating what you paid for a knife if said strictly for informative purposes?

If there is such a rule......I never heard of it.

I always take such information with a grain of salt anyway......I suspect everybody does.

:)

Not sure how it's viewed in the Buck sub-forum, but elsewhere on the site, the mods' radar seems to go on alert if the info is TOO specific, i.e., "I only paid (insert amount here) dollars on this specific model, at this specific dealer." It starts looking less like 'general info', and more like deal-spotting or spam. All the worse, if a link to a vendor site is included (pretty sure that is a violation). If the OP 'just happens to be' a first-time poster here on BF, that's just about guaranteed to get a hard look (at least) from the mods.

On the other hand, I don't think anybody's going to find fault in someone just pointing out they got a good (or not-so-good) deal on a particular knife, so long as specific dealer/seller names don't enter into it.

Here is the portion of the forum rules that cover this area

WHAT IS MY KNIFE / GADGET / SPATULA / TUNING FORK WORTH?!?!?!?!
In order to curtail potential abuse of membership privileges associated with the forums, questions regarding valuation of knives and collections are limited to those with a membership level which permits selling on this site. Accordingly, registered and basic members may not start or post in threads with such requests whether with the intent to sell or for informational purposes only

Obsessed with Edges and mbjannusch are right. The significant problem is announcing a certain price from a certain dealer. That would be deal-spotting -- unless the dealer is a paid Bladeforums Dealer member.

Telling us you got a particular knife and letting us know what you paid would be OK, but letting that evolve into questions of "where did you get it at that price?" with "email me" following, is not.
