Found this one on the 'bay tonight...

Looks like a Chinese Schrade stamp. Does not look like a Schrade USA stamp. It is a 33OT and the master blade has met Mr. Grinder. Not sure about that black scale with the missing shield. Most definitely an optimistic starting price for that auction. :rolleyes:
 
I've seen this stamp before. I think that it is a seconds knife from the original Schrade factory, many knives had the original tang stamp ground off, then re-stamped with the larger letters, if you look closely there are lines through the stamping also. later on in years it seems the seconds knives just had a double X stamped across the tangs. Somewhere in my collection I have a blank scrimshaw single blade hunter with the same stamping, which I bought around 2002.
The missing shield is similar to the ones used on latter day Ulster knives.

Interesting Russell, thanks. I guess I've seen some similar techniques (a figure 8 on its side, instead of X's). I have several with the stamp ground off, and a few where they went over the top of an existing stamp too. Even one where it is just missing.
