In may of 1999 I started recieving (without subscribing) Playboy magazine. Don't know how but in may of 99 it started showing up. Round about jan of 2000 they sent me a renewal letter telling me if I don't want to miss a single issue I should renew now.

Frankly Playboy to me always seemed like it was targeted to men at the upper edge of middle aged who think they are hip and cool. Basically it looked like a how-to guide to follow the trendy 20 somethings. If you buy this stuff and listen to this music the 19 year old in the centerfold will dig you.

Since the magazine is not my bag I didn't return the renewal, I though I would have seen the last of it in april. None such luck! As of sept 2005 I was still getting it free with the yearly renewal requests.

Well I think they finally got wise, October, no magazine, Novewmber, no magazine.

Why couldn't backwoodsman make this kind of error? Has anything like this ever happened to anyone else?

I once had a subscription for quite some time to Transworld Snowboarding. Eventually I grew tired of the things when they grew to approximately 200 pages of advertisements (in a 300 page mag) and stopped subscribing. I continued to recieve it for a few years after that. I have no idea why.

Are you dissing the articles in Playboy?

:D

p.s It could be worse. You could have gotten a free subscription to a magazine that is almost like Playboy

I once got a free "trial issue" of Playboy that kept coming for at least 4 months after I cancelled. Not a penny of cost, at least monetarily. My wife wasn't too happy.

My wife got swindled into supporting some college kids by buying magazine subscritions from them. We were getting 3 weekly ones, and 11 Monthly ones! That was not free, and cost us a lot of $$$. My freebie didn't look so bad after that. We've actually maintained 3 of those subscriptions that were worth the money. The rest were cancelled...eventually.

From time to time, free magazine subscriptions show up out there, mostly just magazine subscription warehouses fishing for email addresses. Anyway, I've got free subs to Maxim, Stuff, FHM and Blender through 2010, and I don't even read them. Got a free sub to Rolling Stone, just threw it away, about two years later, got a notice that my sub payment was past due. Called them up and cancelled it, and explained what had happened. They sent me an apology, and about two years more of free issues. I bought a sub to Blade and Backwoodsman, and those are the only magazines I look forward to receiving. I did get a few trial issues of Knife World, they missed one issue for me, and for several months, I didn't get that free issue, but I didn't see the point in complaining about something for free. I recently got my fifth free "final issue" from them.

I had the same sort of thing with Field & Stream in the 80's. Started getting it and got it for 4 years and never once subscribed.

Seeing as I was in High School, woulda rather had the Playboys!

Well, my last name is Toyota. I recieve some automotive magazines free which my mom donates to the school library. It's pretty cool except when people call looking for service or something. We (our residential number) are in the new yellow pages here. LOL.

I don't have the heart, I just looked in the magazine bin next to my couch and there are five issues of playboy still in the plastic they come sealed in.

I can't help but think that if my last name was Toyota I would have figured out a way to get a free car. Possibly a tundra pickup
