hey steve...what's up.....i have a friction folder....i have the one pictured here http://japaneseknifedirect.com/Page82.html ....it was pretty stiff when i got it...i oiled it and it is loose as a goose now....i was wondering.....is it possible to add something that keeps the knife closed....like a little lock or something...i don't know what is possible but i can't keep it in my pocket....unless i wanna cut my thigh open.....i'd like to carry it in my pocket rather than have a sheath made.....thanks for any options.....ohh if it's not clear in the pic...it is a wooden handle basically with a slot down the middle with the blade....it has a pin peened on one side to hold it....period....ryan

I don't know right off. Maybe a rubber band? :D

Seriously I figure there is some way that something could be machined to do that maybe akin to the lock on the Kershaw Leek, Scallion or Chive.

Without seeing how far back the blade point is in the folder when closed it would be difficult to determine how or if that could work though.

Idealy something on the end down low that could hold the point down when the blade is closed would probably be best and out of the way but I really can't say for sure. I've never done anything like it.

i guess a rubber band is a preety cheap solution:D.....i guess i'll have to get a small sheath for it one day....i'd love to have a liner lock folder made out of the blade....but that would be preety pricey....and i'm sure it ain't easy to drill into hardened steel for a thumbstud....ryan

My carbides would zip right through that blade easy and quick for a thumb stud. No problem at all there.

On the liner lock. Yeah, I am pretty sure thats probably doable but I'd have to see the blade to know for sure. It looks as if the pivot sits high on it leaving little room for a very wide lock for the long cut but if it allows for enough to still be strong its probably still feesible. Problem is it would probably be very hard to reuse that beautiful handle depending on how its together inside for stand offs in the rear. There must be hidden screws or pins in there is my guess.

steve....if u could tell me or email me how much that would cost i would appreciate it....i don't have any money now but would consider it in the future....and i know it would be a very rough estimate at best till u had the knife in hand....and know if it was even possible....ryan
