I have a lot of nichols files as the welders use only the edge and once that breaks down a bit them toss them. So, I play around with them at times. This one I welded some allthread to the top of and them when it was nice and hot in the forge I folded and turned the file around the all thread, pounded on it a bit and filled the seam with brass, squared up the shoulder a bit and put some space and a makome handle on it. Edge quelched and tempered. smothed and polished but left some file lines to show its first life.

Yes, it's a little strange looking, but, it actually feels good in your hand and I think it would be a very usable design. I use things like this to work out my thoughts and designs. I am experimenting on how to get the bolster/guard area where it is formed with the orginal bar

Interesting the way you incorporated the brass.. Very nice !!

I'd like to see something like that with a straight 3 in. blade....
