future compression locks?

Are some or most of the current Spydie liner locks going to be updated in future with compression locks? I was imagining the new Tim Zowada VG-10 version with the new lock. Also looking forward to handling the upcoming frame lock version compression lock Wegner(?) due in future.

Though I must confess I don't yet own a compression lock knife. I examined a Vesuvius but the lock bar occasionally pinched me on opening the knife and avoiding that was a little awkward, so I put it off my list (for now). But I do like the idea and simplicity of this locking system and plan to wait and see how it evolves.

Looking at spyderco.com, it seems that there's a new medium-sized knife, the Salsa, that'll have a compression lock on it. From the pictures, it looks like it'll have a similar type of handle that's on the Navigator and the Meerkat, and a similar shaped blade, just bigger, and with either Al or Ti scales.

Hi James. We're considering some lock changes in the future, although it's still being discussed. The Wenger frame lock is a Phil Bogezuski custom. Spyderco has no plans to make this knife in production.

John, The ATR is being tooled now for USA production. The only model that we have that can be shot is the proto.

Thanks for the thread pointer Think.

From the contents of that thread, it sounds to me that this ATR is what spyderco.com has listed as the Salsa. Two versions, one with Al scales and one with Ti scales. Compression-lock on each and the cobra-hood for easier opening of the blade.

From the pics on the site, it looks like a slightly bigger version of the Navigator/Meerkat.

Looks like a pretty nice knife, certainly.

What are other people's opinions?

Nomaded,

From what I understand the ATR and Salsa are two different knives of similar design. Both will have a compression lock and a cobra hood hole. However I think the Salsa will be Navigator size while the ATR exceeds 3 inches and has indexing holes in the handle. There has also been talk of an expensive collector version and a cheaper production version for one or both of the knives.
