I recall Sal mentioning occasional updates to the D`allara handle....I was wondering how I could get the most up to date one and if there were going to be any near future (this year) revisions to the D`allara? Otherwise, I might just order one with my Dodo Monday.

You just can't go wrong with the current D'Allara DP model. It is an awesome knife. I carry one everyday and love it! It's strong, has a great lock and feels awesome in the hand!! I think it is a steal for the money!!

I'll second the recommendation for the new D'Allara drop point. I would assume that being a new model, it has the latest handle mold. You should really enjoy the Dodo and D'Allara; those ball locks are great fun to play with (IMHO  )

I agree....this is definitely the best deal Spyderco offers...just wanted to make sure I wouldn't want to trade mine out soon for a newer edition.

I don't think there'll be an update to the new D'Allara DP for a while. The knife has been vastly improved as it is. It is light years ahead of the D'Allara Rescue and the rescue was killer to begin with. Besides, no matter what variation you end up with, be assured of future collector interest. Everybody cried and snotted over the "slippery" handle on the first run Ayoobs. Nobody wanted them when the newer bead blasted ones came out. Now try to find one of the slicksters. You'll pay the price. Cheers.

I've been carrying the first run D'Allara for awhile, and now (after fondling a coworkers drop point) find myself in NEED of the newer handle configuration. I'm planning on sticking with the full serrated rescue blade, but just gotta have the scalloped handles!

I've got one of these on the way to me at the moment. I chose it because it looks like a hybrid of my perfect handle material/shape - the 3D Native; My favourite blade shape - Not dissimiliar to my beloved Terzoula C-15; Favourite steel and favourite wire clip.

One question however. How does that ball bearing lock hold up to grit and sand?

It seems to me that the Drop Point D'Allara has done pretty well since it's introduction. So, Sal, how about considering a mini-version of this design for those of us who want something more like a 3-inch blade.

Hi Max,

Interesting that you would suggest that.

We do have a smaller version in the beginning design stages. We're hidin' and watchin' to see reaction to the new DP version.

That would be awesome. The Griptilian has 2 different sizes. I see the D'Allara DP as direct competition to the Grips and thus it should also have 2 sizes. I would most definitly buy one!! Good news Sal!
