Hi Steve---I got another HD-7, a gift, and would like to have an open frame design. Is it hard to make G-10 Barrels? Or SS? The screws would run through the Barrels and screw into the other handle slab. Let me know but I don't want to be a PIA! Thanks, Steve!

Yes it would be difficult for me. I have no way to make them rounded. I would probably sooner take existing barrels for 1/8" diameter and cut one in half or two thirds and use those to make spacers depending on how many were needed and the thickness they need to be based on the blade thickness and the two washer combined. Ernie's washers are .030" thickness each so a .120 blade and two washers would make the needed spacers thicker than any commercial ones I've ever seen sold or available. Its far easier to make them this way than to mess with trying to lathe something else either from G10 or steel or titanium and it would be far cheaper also since these are readily available.

That is how I did these here.

OK, Steve. You would need the knife, right? I would need three Barrels. Let me think this one over. I would like to do it. How much is your Ouperator? And what blade styles do you offer? Thanks!

That one shown was sold a long time ago. I don't have any currently.

All start out at $275 and go up from there depending on specs of the order. Not making anything but Wharncliffe blades currently.

Yes I would need to have the knife to do the spacers for the rear of the folder.

Thanks

OK, Steve! I'll get back to you. I would like you to do it, if you want to. Later.

I have measured those blades and they seem to run anywhere from .120 to .126" thickness. If you have a way to mic the rear spacer on there now to give me the exact thickness .18 something I can make up a set of three with that and you can install them. That is the only way I could do it without the folder.

Thanks my friend.

Steve---The rear spacer thickness is .180. Is that all the info you need? I'll wait to hear from you. Take your time. Thank you, Steve.

Oh, Steve---I have the original Rear Spacer from the HD-7 that you replaced
with the new one. Should I just send that rear spacer down to you so You can measure it? Let me know. Thanks!
Rolf

Only if its the one off the knife you want spacers for. Generally speaking I try to be more exacting than plus or minus so much. It would probably work as you say and probably well enough that the naked eye would not detect it if the spread out of the thickness of the folder was slightly more at the pivot than the rear. I just prefer the exact one on the folders I work on to at least have the factory settings or as close as possible you know??

OK, Steve. It goes out tomorrow! Thank you!! I'll write everything up for you. Thanks!
Rolf

hey how much you charging for them could i get a set made up for me when you have his knife there? its a hd7 so they should fit. Thanks

Steve---It's .187, the G-10. My wife mailed the rear spacer to you today so you will have the exact measurement. I also put a screw in there for you. Take your time. I Really appreciate this, Steve! Let me know the amount$ Thanks!

Ok Rolf. The way I figure it the cost on these is $25.75 just for the six pivot barrels it took to do it. 3 -1/8" and 3 - 3/16". I had to drill out the 1/8" ones I did once made up and did this with a number 44 drill so your screws slide through. Then I had to drill out the 3/16 barrel threads on those three so the 1/8" barrels slid into those to give it enough mass to make it look like a spacer. I had forgotten that the ones I showed you are actually 3/16" ones straddling 1/8" pivot barrels. The 1/8" barrels alone are not going to be very much 'meat' and probably won't look real good. That was my feelings anyway.

They should go on fine. Hope so anyway. I spent quite a bit of time sizing them.

It took me longer than it does to make a low rider clip and I get $30 for those plus shipping as you know so its not feesible to charge what I'd like on them.

Anyway, not cost effective and I'm out six barrels but its done and in the mail..

Thanks

Thanks, Steve! I'll get the payment right out. This is a "one" time deal. Aren't you glad?! I Really appreciate this, Steve. Thanks to you, my HD-7 is now a Custom! Thank you!
Rolf

Steve---Got the Barrels!! Thank You! Three talented men have a hand in this folder now, You, Tom Krein and the Dude at Emerson. It's a Custom! Thanks again, Steve. I'll post a pic on the Emerson Forum this week-end. Enjoy the week-end! :)
