I was about to buy a blue G10 Dodo, and I thought what I REALLY want is a g10 Poliwog. Are the Dodos selling like crazy? If they are, how about a Poliwog?

Seriously, nobody? I thought I heard people were thrilled with their Dodos. How can you not want a g10 Poliwog?

Not that it isn't a good idea -- G10 Poliwog...

I think many fans are focusing on sprint runs of other models -- especially discontinued models (resurrection as it was). It may take a while to get this variant, based on the results of the original's ELU reception & the current queue of design plans.

Poliwog is more of an architectural design piece then a user IMO, mostly because it's too wide. Better idea would be to shrink the dodo by 1/3.

The main drawkback on the Poliwog is the shape when folded being hard to remove from a pocket when clipped on. I was thinking about getting a leather holster made for it. Someone on ebay had some nice ones for other Spydercos, and they said they could make one for a Poliwog. Vess leather or something like that.

But the handle shape when opened is amazing. Light tape cutting to open a box is perfect with a thumb on the side of the handle type grip (but fingers still in grooves), and with a thumb on the spine type of grip it's also perfect for cutting up boxes and other work requiring a good grip and a fair amount of force.

I already have two of them (one sent to Spyderco for some issues) so I can have one to collect and one to use the heck out of. G10 would be better to lower the weight.

:D :D :D

Vass is the go to guy for leatherwork. He likes his Spydies and he does them justice with his sheaths.

Haven't gotten my hands on a poliwog yet, but just on paper that knife is too heavy for me. A G-10 version could be just right.

Best regards,

Argyll

Hi Carl, the Poliwog was designed originally to be a "kit knife" with different handle materials, different balls (ceramic, etc) and colored clips.

As Michael mentioned, let's hide-n-watch for a while and see if the market will accept the design.

I hope that takes off! Maybe all kinds of colors of annodized Aluminum too. I am a little worried that the weight of the steel might hold people back on this version. It's not really THAT heavy, but enough that people notice.

I think everyone should have one. It's such a hand-fitted design and on top of that it's just plain cool looking.

Thanks for the info.
