G2 Mayhem Sheath

The Bradley Mayhem Balisong is my EDC blade (along with a Vic Explorer Plus) but I wanted a more comfortable way to carry the Mayhem, plus I don't like big knives in my front right pocket. No doubt, for me, a sheath was the way to go. Initially I thought I'd purchase one of the Benchmade nylon sheaths for $14....boy am I glad I didn't.

I contacted bladeforums very own Gary W. Graley (G2) about building me a custom leather sheath. He was confident he could build me a horizontal sheath for my Mayhem and quoted me what I considered to be a very reasonable price. All this took place over the last 10 days or so.

Anyway today I was very happy to hear a smiling postal worker knocking at my front door with this in his hands:

The sheath fits perfectly and it's construction is second to none. It's very comfortable and the knife fits very snugly so I have no worries of it slipping out of it's new home. This is the first custom sheath I've purchased and I can see that it was well worth the effort and expense.

Thank you for your hard work and outstanding craftsmanship Gary.

Blessings...

Gary is the NUMBER ONE fitted folder sheath guy in the whole world as we know it, and particulary balisong knives. I don't even know who number 2 is, but he's so far back he can't even see Gary.

Beautiful sheath bleev, and I know you are proud!

Thanks Paul.

I will be sending more work to him after this pleasant experience. On several knife forums he was highly recommended but not knowing him made me a bit nervous to send my very expensive (to me) and beloved knife to a complete stranger across the country. It took a little time and a lot of faith to do that but I'm incredibly happy I gave him my trust. My knife returned in the same condition it was sent....looking at the packaging in the opening post you can see to what level he looks after your knife.

Thanks bleev3, always nice to see and hear when things go well and arrive safely!

And Paul, many thanks sir, you are too kind!

This particular knife, I almost did not take on, for the main reason that it lacked horns
as butterfly knives generally have, but in this case horns would have made it even worse
as the handles are the same width from pivot to latch. There would be no widening near
the opening to allow the horns inside! So as you can see from the photos, I tried to bring
any level of detent that I could muster from the indentations of the handle and the grip
area in the handle, as well as the clip on the knife also aids in retention.
It doesn't snap in to place, but it should hold it in place pretty secure.
Again, thanks for the post and yes, I do tend to go over board on the packing, like to send
things as if I were to receive them ;) a little more time but I feel it is worth it.

I was expecting the sheath to be twice as thick. I am pleasantly surprised to see just how low profile it is allowing it to ride on the belt without noticing it's there. It makes for a really comfortable and discrete carry.

When I get my Bradley Alias it's going to be shipped directly to Gary's home from the dealer to be fitted for a sheath. lol

OKay - The knife is junk.

The sheath - junk.

These things need to be donated to me - as I am the only one capable of owning something so aweso.... I mean crappy! :D

What a duo man - classy all the way!

That leather guy is amazing

Mom, I told you not to post on here any more! ;)
Just kidding, but thank you very much.

Also that photo was tricky to do, but easy at the same time
I had some smoke coloured plexiglass and put some black felt
beneath that, then I angled the plexiglass so that I got a reflection
from across a hallway wall, what you are seeing is the overhead
light striking the wall and reflected in the plexiglass and also the
sheath is reflected in the plexiglass, a lot going on in that photo!
forgot to add, I also had a sheet of white paper to throw some light
across the lower edge of the sheath too :)

Again, thanks!

Thanks Duflar, photography is a very big passion as well as knives and leatherworking

The shot was done with a Canon G10, I shot in RAW format and also use manual settings
as it's usually a longish exposure and in any of the other modes once you get to a 1 sec
timing or longer it isn't quite right, so I found in manual mode you can watch and dial in
just how you want it exposed, works pretty well.

Nice sheath/knife combo! The 1 and only blade I regret selling is my Mayhem!!!! Keep it close brother!!!!

I love living in California, but I get so jealous when other states allow you to carry stuff like that. Great work!

Thanks guys, the setup is really to my liking.

Arizona is a great state. No knife regulations on size or type. I can purchase autos or balisongs and have them on me 24/7. I can carry a sidearm in a holster with no permit and go shopping. My state senators are voting on bill SB1270 which would allow all citizens of Arizona to carry a concealed handgun without permit. It has been passed by a committee and is going to a full senate vote soon.

I wish all states were like Arizona. We shouldn't need government permission to do these things.
