Cut up some deer steaks this evening and gave the HR a test drive to see what she'd do. I am impressed. Even though its thicker than most deboning knive it worked well. Handle grip was solid even with the blood and meat. Can't wait till my Bandicoot arrives, it has to be even better.

*Tip* Last year I found best way to "clean up" deer back straps for cutting steaks was to use a fork. Tears the grisle/tendons off without losing alot of meat.

MD,
Thanks for the mini-review.

I've really fallen in love with the HR and the Resiprene C handles on all the Rat's. Great stuff.

:D:D:D

Today I used it to skin, gut and dejoint a deer. The HR was the talk of deer camp. Before I used it everyone one was saying "Man thats a big knife" , afterwards "Nice knife". Afterward the earlier deboning mentioned and todays dressing/dejointing it still shaves hair! ;) To see how tough it was I dejointed by hand, no saw. Reached in and "popped" the hip joints. No prob for the HR.

later
Dave.

Dave,
Thanks for the report on the HR.

The problem with always carrying a good knife is then you always get called on for skinning and gutting. Is this the case for you? :D:D

yeah, but its ok. I like to test out my knives, esp after I sharpen them myself just to see how I do. Nothing like cutting circles around someone hacking away with a dull knife. So much easier with a good sharp knife :)
