I don't have pics, so please excuse me, but I wanted to share with you all a warning. If you should decide to patina your GEC Barlow, please be careful. They fight back!

I was planning on giving my little knife a vinegar bath. Why, you might ask? Well, I opened the main blade and it had rust on it. Now, I baby this thing to death, so I got mad at it. Scooped it right up and polished off the rust. Then, my next step is to make sure that I get all any oils so that the patina will be even. That's done with soapy water.

Anybody wanna guess what kind of odds you get when you handle a razor sharp knife with soapy hands? No, that's not what did it. I had the main blade open all the way. When I went to close it, the half stop was so sudden that my hand jerked and off went a little circle on my finger. Nothing bad, but it bled for an hour.:o

Oh, the knife was not harmed, other than the forced patina. Sucker stayed sharp, too. Then I hit it with a new coat of oil. In the end, we made up. I might even EDC it this week.:D

I recommend going one step further and wiping off the blade with some rubbing alcohol to really ensure all oils and finger grease are gone.

But if you leave a couple of fingerprints burned into the patina, then everyone knows who's knife it is.:p
