The GEC Minilockback is 3 7/8" long. Does anyone know how long the blade is on this model?
There is also a Northfield 3 3/4" linerlock that I might be interested in, but I wonder if anyone knows the blade length on this one?
I don't want to get any pocket knives right now with blades over 3".

Thanks for checking - I hoped that the knife would be 3" or so.
The liner locks may be different. I really prefer lockbacks, but want to stay at 3" or under.

I think they are all based on the No.73 pattern and thus will have the same length blades.

arty i measure these at 3&1 /16 as did jenner.i beleieve that shoud'nt matter legally if you are in a prohibitive state. check with the local cops & see what their position happens to be.

I am in Illinois and wanted to keep length under 3" - The only time I see a local cop is when they pull you over while driving....not a good time to ask about blade length!

arty go down to the police station & ask to see a detective about legality. my experience is they will just tell you to carry or not. i'm sure they wo'nt arrest you unless you have warrants out . also brush your teeth ==it helps.

The
blade on my Northfield UN X LD Liner lock measures 3 1/8" from bolster to tip.....

laws are laws & i've found if you are not a total freak & do'nt antogonize enforcement most officers might just advise you of the law & let it go. texas cops in general if you not in a riot or a drunken melee do'nt really pay that much attention. however i'm an older guy with my bar clearing activities way in the past so i've not seen over zealous enforcement of knife laws. even using automatics in utility around police has'nt been a problem with myself . once again i believe situations are of unrest are what gets most weapon carriers in trouble. if stopped i put my keys, wallet & knives on the dash & i've never had a problem since i have gotten older.

The liner lock on GEC liner lock knives pushes the blade against the opposite liner, and I've never seen one where the blade is properly centered between the scales. This is another one of those pesky details where all the great work done otherwise on GEC knives diminishes the overall quality of their knives. If only they would take that little extra time finishing their knives they'd have a superior product.

This is true of almost all linerlock knives, and is not a defect as such. The linerlock is a spring, and pushes on the blade at all times. This is probably why they sit off-center. I've got a Buck linerlock in my hand now, and it's slightly off. I think it's the result of the spring pressure and not a defect. But if you want to stop buying GEC because of that characteristic, then that leaves more for the rest of us. ;)

Is the lockback version better in this way? Does the blade line up in the center of the handle and lock up tight with no side play?
A loose blade drives me nuts, even if the steel is good.
How does the overall quality of the GECs compare to Queens?
