I've just been looking at GEC knives offered for sale by the various vendors...

Perhaps I've been up too late, tired eyes...

What's the difference in the pattern #'s 23 and 73 ?

thanks!

23 is 4.5 in., one or 2- 3.75 blades,1095 or 440c steels,handles are to date, e

xotic wood, buffalo horn, bone , & stag. no pen blade only large blades.

73 is 3.75 in. with 3 in. main blade , may or may not have pen blade. to date handles are buffalo, rams horn, wood, bone , stag, & acrylic. steel is 1095 & i have'nt seen any 73s in 440c. they may have a few in abalone but i,ve not seen them.
construction on all gec knives is superior [read heavy] fit & finish will equal any other production in modern times. the smaller 3.75 is up to any tasks, including whitetail deer.there are differences in blade polish with glazed finish in majority. mirrow polish may be found on some models but i ,ve found no solid formula to indicate which models will have mirrow polish. i have identical 23s in buffalo horn, red buffalo --mirrow & black burralo in glazed.also 23s & 73s may have locks on master blade. if one is to understand gec it's necessary to realize they follow their own rules as to patterns. it's best to describe gecs in their own models. exsample what most people call a stock just doesnt work for these guys. in fact they have patterns indigineous only to gec.

And I would add.

The 23 is only 3/4" longer than the 73 but is MUCH heavier (I like it)

I carry my 23 double blade in a SAK nylon flap belt pouch

The 73 single blade goes in my pocket.

The words strong, solid, heavy, work knives, fit the GEC's :D

My #23 is a brick (in a satisfying way), and roughly the size of a Buck 110. It is a pretty substantial knife.

I have a couple of #73's and may have a #23 pretty soon. :)

The #73 is a perfect pocket size, big enough to do anything you would ever want to do with a slipjoint and yet easy to carry.

The Tidioutes generally have satin finished blades and no blade swedges; 1095 steel. Northfield models have mirror polished blades and swedges, and may also have fancier bolsters. GEC models are much like Northfields in details, but have 440C blade steel.
