Just one of many boxes of knifemaking supplies I have laying around. This one happens to be mostly stag, but there are a lot more boxes with various woods. And, don't even get me started on all the different steels I have laying around! :)

Somehow, I get the feeling I'm not alone in my material collecting. :D

If you need to make room you can send that stag to me :)
and I'd even pay the shipping :D :D

A knifemaker is someone who has an inventory of bits of bone, antler and such that is worth more than his truck.

Danbo, Good to see ya here on the knife making side of the fence! One way trip, fella! What's the hold up, anyhow? From the looks of that box of stuff, you are just figuring what you want to make first, fella.

Yep, Go for it. Like John said it is a one way trip and a long one. It is worth ever minute of it.

Beautiful stuff. I'd be very happy to take some of that excess stag off your hands (need some for orders ). please send me an e-mail is your interested or have a good source.

Hey, Danbo - that looks like way too much stuff for one guy who doesnt even make his own knives. How about some charity, I'm a starving 17 year old knife-maker, planning on getting into the emergency medical field which pays horribly in this state, so I need all the support I can get.
For only one set of scales and/or stag piece a day you too can sponsor an under priveledged young knife-maker! Please help! ;)

Seriously man, get some books, get some tools (pass on a few new bowies and get some nice tools), ask lots and read lots here and get to it - its a wonderful addicti... uhhmm... hobby. ;) :D :)

Well, I certainly have enough materials and some of the proper equipment. I have a Bader BIII grinder with both pyroceram flat platen and various hollow grind wheels(although, I have never tried the hollow grinding), a new Evenheat digital controlled heat treating oven(still in box), various vices, drill press, metal and wood bandsaws, etc..... Now, all I have to do is get myself in the mood after staring at a computer screen all day at work. :)

Danbo's got a big bag of great looking blades, he just suffers from some sort of weird handle-attaching phobia. I'm going to buy him some epoxy for Christmas. :D

Hey, Danbo makes great knives! I carry one of his on a regular basis. Great grind lines and plunge cuts! It's sharp as hell and holds a great edge.

True, it is one of the few that he has actually completed.:p

He loves grinding blades just not too fond of putting handles on 'em.:D

That's also the only knife of mine you will ever see with a stamped name on it. That's the only blade I could ever stamp properly, without getting a double stamp. :)

Nice lookin' materials. I feel your pain when it comes to "getting in the mood" to make knives- espsecially handles. I've been out of it for a while. Right now, there is a finished Bowie in my car that I've been meaning to mail for about 2 weeks. It only took me 7 years to get around to finishing the damn thing! No kidding! It collected dust on the bench all that while just waiting for a handle.

I didn't realize you were so close. I was in Belleville yesterday. I live in Okawville. Small world. You gonna be at the Mount Vernon knife show the first weekend of November?

Yes, I will be there. Whether or not I have a table, is undecided. I usually set up and sell some of my collection, but I think I was supposed to have my table details worked out by now. It might be too late.

Danbo-

I'm not sure, but I usually only have Sundays free to attend such things. I've never met a forumite in person- might be kinda neat. Thoughts? Several people told me to set up a table as well, or go in with another maker for half a table, for my miniature knives. I didn't do it since I only have 2 or 3 completed right now, but they did tell me to get a table ASAP or they'd be full.

Don't let Danbo fool you guys. I saw a knife he made a little over a year ago at Blade. It was purdy darn nice too! :D.
