My Gen 2 Liner is really worn down after about a month of having it. Is this normal?? It is on the EXTREME right side of the tang and I can see the groove that the tang cut into the liner. Does anyone know if EDI sells replacemtn liners or somthing??

Taz,
remember a while ago I warned you about flicking your knife? Tisk Tisk hehehe

Well I can't help you but did you flick your knife a lot? This is one of the main reasons I dislike liner locks, what good is a knife that wears out in a month?! Knives shouldn't be disposable, they should last for years.

Hehehehe...I didn't flick it that many times...maybe about 4 or 5. I wore pretty quickly wih just normal opening and closing. I didn't open it that much when I didn't need to. I think I am going to call EDI and see if I can buy some liners or something. Does the tang usually cut a groove in the liner, or does it usually wear evenly? My liner has a fairly deep groove in it and I was wondering if this was normal.

If you send it to them witha a letter explaining how long you've had it and what you usually used it for they should replace the liner for you. What they will probably do is replace the knife. Call them first.

Take care,

Mike

At least yours stays locked open with the liner springing so far over. I just finished modifying mine so that the liner would go way on over rather than staying close to its side of the blade. The thing was closing up on me when I didn't want it to!

True...i wish I had that problem. My genesis was on the far left, but after 2 flicks and about 10 normal openings, it was in the middle and after a few more, it was on the extreme right side. I can see a big groove where the tang cut into the liner...is this normal??

I don't know if it is normal or not, but my Gen 2 came with the liner pressing up on the far side when I got it, it also appears to be a little too short to press firmly against the blade. When I get a chance it is going back for repair, on the other hand my Gen 1 came perfect and has continued to operate flawlessly.

Both of your problems are not normal. You guys need to send your knives back to EDI. Geez, a liner that isn't even long enough to touch the blade tang, that's pretty horrible.

Is the linear lock the same way for the Genesis I? I heard good things about those knives, I'm surprised to hear this...

I would say that the problem that I have experianced with my Gen 2 is not typical of EDI knives. My Gen 1 is great, I could not have asked for a better knife of this type. I have read of other people having trouble with both models, however EDI always has been reported as fixing any problem brought to their attention. The reason my Gen 2 is not fixed is because I have not sent it in yet. So at this point it is partly my own fault that I do not have a working Gen 2.

My Gen 1 is great, the liner locks up tightly and the the opening and closing of this knife is one of the smoothest production knives that I have seen right out of the box. I have read about other people having some problems with their Gen 1 and 2, however they all seemed to report that any problems were taken care of too their satisfaction by EDI. The reason that my Gen 2 is not currently working is that I have not sent it in for repair. I am sure that when I do go ahead and send it I will recieve it back in proper working order. I think that some of the quality control problems are due to the small size and relative youth of EDI as a company. It seems like they are still trying to iron out some of the small bugs. I am sure that they will be successful. In short I would still recomend either of these knives, and if they unfortunatly came flawed I believe that EDI will repair/replace them.
