Gerber Boot Knife - My Review

Hey all. Just grabbed a Gerber Guardian Back Up Boot knife off the Exchange here. First off, the person I bought it from was WONDERFUL to deal with; friendly, and fast shipping! Sent payment Thurs. night, recieved the knife today, monday!!!

The knife:

I think it is a VERY cool little knife. It's just the right size for a back-up (Hence the name:D ) and would be perfect for anything, I think. I love the design; simple and to the point. It's a sharp little double-edger, with a cool plastic sheath that fits securely, and you can adjust the amount of force it takes to remove the knife by playing with these sliding buttons on the side of the sheath. Really a cool feature!
And it has a VERY strong, sturdy steel clip. It's so strong, it's actually quite difficult to remove once you clip it somewhere, so you can rest assured it will stay in place! The clip has a big lip on the bottom to keep it very securely wherever you clip it, in addition to the great tension the clip has.
I have searched the forums here, and no one has really had many complaints about Gerbers. They seem to be good, solid knives for the money. I'm sure this will do superbly as a back-up for camping, or everyday.

Anyway, Just my opinion on a cool little knife. If anyone needs anything like it, you can get them NIB on ebay for about $40. Great knife, great price. I'm happy with mine!

You should also try the Camillus boot knives too. Heard they're great. And they're slightly cheaper too. Not that the Gerber is not a good deal, but I don't have much money and a lot of knives that I buy is dictated by my bank account balance.

Take care that you don't get the tension too high. I did on mine and it almost took explosives to get it to release. Even so, this is a great feature that I wish was available on other sheaths. Set it low for when you repeatedly taking the knife out, higher for sure retention. The only problem I saw with it is that it would be easy to bump the catch on something and possibly lose the knife.

I have had one for years and you are right, it's a nice little knife. Mine has a nylon type sheath which I don't really care for. I would really like to get one of the new style sheaths. I would probably start carrying it again.:)

Yeah Dr. Jones, those little Gerber back ups are nice pieces.

Not to cast aspersions on Camillus boot knives, but I've got a Pakistan POS that was better out of the box than the Camillus boot knife I bought recently. Did a comparison with it against a Cold Steel ParaEdge and a Cudeman boot knife, it's on the first or second page of the reviews and testing board, came absolute bottom in every test.
