How good are the Gerber multipliers in the 600 series?? I am very fascinated of the Gerber products (Gator). And would like to hear from people who have actually used Gerber tools. I have already searched the archives but could not find anything useful .
Also does anyone know what kind of steel the Gerber Multipliers are made of ??

Any help is very appreciated!!

Thanks in advance!!

I have a needlenose n the 600 series and it is a very good multitool. it is also fun to open cause the pliers go "thwack" when youopen them and everyone loves to do it. seriously I carried one pair for two years in a Combat Support Hospital where I used it to fix all kinds of field medical equipment and help put up and tear down the hospital numerous times and it held up wonderfully. it doesn't pinch the hand when you squeese down hard and it is very tough. I don't carry a big multitool anymore cause I have a huge toolbox at work and usually just get the right tool but if I was going to carry it would be the needlenose gerber in the 600 series. sorry I don't know what kind of steel

Thanks for the reply!!
It is very appreciated.
I would also like to hear from the rest of the Gerber users on this forum.

Thanks in advance!!!

I have a Gerber pro-Scout and I like it alot, but I handled a Gerber Legend recently and really like it even more.
The way the pliars remain open is really neat and the tools are available without extending the pliars.
And you can open both the scissors and the knife with one hand.

And the adaptor that lets you change saw blades is totally awesome too.

Good luck,
Allen.

I have used just about every multi-tool on the market, at one time or another, and the Gerbers are among my favorites. The Gerber Legend is what I carry every day. It seems to combine the best design features of everyone else's multi-tools while adding a few that only Gerber currently offers.

I have also had good experiences with the 400 Scout.

But I traded, and ended up with a 400 and it's a POS.....wolf

I've only tried the 400. Its first real use was to remove a treble hook that was deeply imbedded in a friend’s arm. The 400 got the hook out, but was totally bent out of whack afterward. The pliers wouldn’t slide open and closed anymore.

I sure hope the 600 is A LOT better than the 400.

They must be making 'em better now, I got a real bad one back in '95. It was poorly fit together and the "wire cutters" were rounded off so all it could do was bend wire. The knife blade was a blank, never had an edge put on. The phillips screwdriver rounded off after just a few uses.

--- Sorry I just noticed you're looking for info on the 600 series. I don't know what version I had in 95 but I hope Gerber is not still letting lemons like that get through.

I just got mine back from Gerber. I got it in a trade and the wire cutters were all chewed up. Sent it back and they gave me a brand new pair. I didn't send the sheath, and they sent a new one with it!

They are great tools, I think. Not my favourite one, but a good one!

The 400 I had was just fine. I didn't subject it to any hard use, but it did a good job on the light jobs I threw at it.

The Legend (MultiPlier 800) is a very different design and it seems to be much tougher than the 400 and 600 series.
