Last week I was showing the Sous Chef at work the new Spyderco catalog when he mentioned how "awesome" the blue 93mm rescue w/the partially serrated blade was. Being that he bought me my first knife kit I felt it was time to reciprocate and ordered him the Rescue from Newgraham Sunday night. It arrived today and I gave it to him before the dinner rush hit so he would have time to play around with it for a bit.
I will say I have rarely seen someone so impressed with a gift. After checking it out thoroughly himself he went around showing all the other cooks his new knife and each was just as amazed as he. Previous to the Rescue he had been using one of those "little big knife" knives from the gas station with the orange handle to open boxes, slice bags of seafood at the sink, and other chores where a house knife usually is not handy. At the end of the night he told me he had no idea there were such finely made knives out there or that pocket knives could be so sharp.
It feels so damn good to give someone something that is so well made and that will truly make their life easier. It really made my day to gift such a wonderful knife to someone I really look up to, thank you Spyderco.
The only problem is that now I think that I have to get the Executive Chef a Delica to replace the knock-off he currently has.
*I am aware that one of the H-1 knives would have been a better knife for kitchen use but there is no partially serrated option for any of them so I went ahead with the Rescue. I'm not really worried about rust since he knows how to take care of his equipment, having worked in the industry for 11 years.
