Has anyone seen anything about the new Gillette Fusion razor? I have seen it mentioined, but no information about it.

If you want a really good shave without using a straight razor go to the wet shaving forum www.shavemyface.com.

They use shaving soap, badger hair brushes, double edged razors etc. A very active and helpful group.

There was a Gillette Fusion display at my local Kroger grocery store, this morning. They were priced in the $13.75 range, and you get the razor handle, one blade, and a "battery pile." The battery is to give "microvibrations" to the blades, in order to give a closer shave. It also has a low battery indicator...and there was a shelf of special Fusion shaving cream upon the display, too.

I'm glad that I still have a Gillette Trac II.... No battery to change, and replacement blades run $2 for a ten-pack. ;)

Fusion??!! What a joke. The vibrator I guess is so your girlfriend can use the
handle ?? :-)

Just bought a fusion at walmart and love it. Definitely much better than the mach 3 series.

What I don't see much use for is the sixth blade on top.

Could it be for cutting the beard that you miss, each time you lift the razor from your face...? I'm certain that much arm and wrist motion could be reduced if one can cut beard even as one's razor is lifted. ;)

Can you submerse the Fusion in water, with that battery...? What with soap and water and shaving cream on my fingers, things get slippery whilst shaving.

I think thats to shape your mustache or beard, or sideburns.

I have been using the Sensor Excel for years, every once and a while I get tired or paying the big $$ fro teh refils and buy some cheap disposable blades. I'm not sure what the last ones I got were but they were almost as good as the SE. Of course I use a good gel cream, and I shave in ths shower. I really do enjoy shaving with my old electric shaver, but shaving in the shower is the best. Now they have newer electrics that are shower friendly...I wonder if they work??

Yes the top is to trim your sideburns, but you can do it with the regular 5 blades. I think it just makes the razor more expensive.

The fusion is completely waterproof.

...or, it could be the "foot in the door" to a six-bladed razor, since the Fusion already has six, just not all lined up! ;)

Yes. Of course, any new razor "system" is necessarily more expensive than the one you've already bought. Isn't that what gimmicks are for...? If it shaves better, is more comfortable, and plays "Nick the Knife" less often, then it's worth upgrading.

That's good. I'm thinking that I might have to get a Fusion and torture test it. One drop, bouncing into the sink after glancing off of the porcelain, and we'll see. ;)

I've found that any more than 2 blades and the razor just gets clogged up too much for me. I'll stick with my Gillette Sensor.

I got one a few days ago and I love it. It feels better with the vibrator on -- well worth the extra money. They're selling them without the vibrator for a couple bucks less but get the one with the vibrator.

I also found that the Fusion Power worked better with the power on than off - but one has to be careful the manual version could possibly have better balance for non-vibration shaving.

The powered version blades are claimed to be coated for lower firction whereas there are no claims for the manual cartridge blades.

I did (side-by-side) comparison shaving for a few weeks using the Fusion Power comparing with my "best" shave the Mach3 Turbo, and even a Schick Quattro -

comparison of the Fusion Power with the Mach3, Mach3Turbo, Sensor Excel and Schick Quattro - please see thread -

As stormdrane said the razor seems to gunk up faster with more bades. There wasn't a rinsing problem with my mach 3, but the fusion's design won't let the sides flush clean. I do like the 6th blade for under the nose though.

I use a Mach 3 Turbo. I was thinking of getting this one, but then I said, "Nah, looks too gimmicky." I'll probably give in eventually :o

Most of my side-by-side comparison shaving over some weeks was the Fusion Power with the Mach3 Turbo - in this thread Multi-Blade Razors (link)

Looking at the photo above one can see that Gillette have managed to squeeze 5 blades into basically the space of 3 (as in the Mach3 Turbo)

Although I didn't have a problem rinsing out the blades - I did find that the Fusion Power I tested (Multi-Blade Razors) did not seem to clear the foam suds from my face. This was even more pronounced when I turned off the power/vibration feature and used the Fusion manually.

At first I thought it was the much wider leading soft micro-fins -
but thinking more and reading the other input here I think it's a combination of the fins as well as more and narrower gaps between the blades trapping the foam and basically not clearing the foam as well.
