we settled on some standard dimensions for these BUGS, and talked over what we liked.

vec, those are some mighty fine looking heads. You are making me want to spend more money I dont have.............Very nice work.......

It's amazing what a little skill and elbow grease can do with what was a cheap and mass produced product. Those are really beautiful.

Is the screw hole (no pun intended :D) on the side of the BUG head a new addition to the standard CS Trail Hawk head, or something added during the BUGification process? I don't recall that being on either of my Trail Hawks...

...runs to the garage to go dig through his gear...

the screw hole (i love saying that, and "Butt Plug" :D:thumbup:) is a remnant from what Cold Steel did to mitigate their inability to keep their Tomahawk Line's eyes from warping, i reckon.

I align the bit to the handle axis on my handles, instead of the eye, so that hole just adds some Mechanical Advantage to the shaft/head junction for me when i add the second slurry into the space between them.

all my hawks have that hole filled, near as i can recollect, brother.

i just started a process where i put a very thin cap on the outer part of the hole, pre-paint, so the the hole barely shows, if at all, when the hawk is complete.

that said, although i like a good-lookin' hawk, and the fact that all our hawks can be made to look brand new again after some attention to them, ...aesthetics are unimportant to me as a hawk man. i just want a protective finish.

if it looks good gettin' it done, all the better.

the early Cold Steel hawks lacked the "Blowfly Maggot" as i think of them, jungle-boy me....

the maggots' threaded inserts are a decent idea on slip handles, whether there are QC issues or not IMHO.

HTH.
