Just wondering if anyone has tried this? I have some gold leafing paint which contains real gold. I was thinking of giving a damascus blade a real deep etch, the painting it with the gold and then taking a piece of 2000 grit sandpaper and sanding off the excess. Then a quick light etch to bring the pattern back out in the damascus. It might look kinda cool with little gold spots here and there.

It might work, a few years back a couple of makers (can't recall who) did a damascus blade, etched it deeply, coated it with lacquer, sanded off the high spots and plated the high areas with 24 carat gold. Very dramatic result.

Lloyd Harding gold plated damascus a few years ago it looked quite good. He sent it off to someone in the eastern states of Australia.
Just from memory it was not expensive I remember being supprised but don't remember the price.

Give it a go let us know how it works for you.
