GOLLNICK...you wrote....
Well, I just got back from one of the legendary Saturday Knife Seminars at API Combative Arts in Portland and I'm disappointed to report that one of the handles broke in only my second match.

COULD YOU EXPLAIN THIS PLEASE....WHAT TYPE OF MATCHES????

Chuck was tired when he posted that, but meant to explain the entire molecular process involved in handle breakage. You see there are these little guys called -atoms-...and they sort of attract (or not).., other stuff on [EARTH]..., well...some of these atomic things that were supposed to attract more strongly... ~> didn't, and they were in his hand at the time...-hence-...the handle broke.

I'm sure he'll explain in depth ASAP.

Knife fights. What did you think????

This isn't a martial arts forum. We're getting a bit off topic to jump into the particulars of knife fighting here.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'd realy like a picture...

well i kinda figured knife fights...but what i meant is....what are the rules...i dunno...i study martial arts...but have never heard of KNIFE fighting as one...i was just curious ..that's all

what are the rules

Rules are for tournament forms. This is a "street form". Rules would be an oxymoron.

And it shows.

You say that you study martial arts -- plural. Apparently, you don't study them all. Neither do I. Until you have studied them all, you should avoid generalizations and avoid the arrogant attitude that assumes that because you've never heard of it, it can't possibly exist.

I'd realy like a picture...

My camera just got out of the shop on Tuesday (it had a fouled slow-speed escapement), and I'll be taking some pictures perhaps today.

:D Now you can get work on how to photograph your 49-SPL, then you'd be able to photograph anything in the world!!!! I can't imagine how difficult it is to photograph a HP, hollow ground, kris blade, the reflections and angles that come off the blade must be really hard to control. But if anyone can do it Chuck can, we've already seen some really fantastic pictures from Dawkind and Jeffrey Yao and I'm ready to see some more!!! :D

When an attacker walks up to me on the streets with a knife, I'll be sure to know all the rules of the fight before drawing mine  ;) :p

I'd like a little more info on these matches myself. If you could post some details in Practical Tactical, that would be really cool. You say it is a street form, do you mean an eclectic style? I would assume (yes, I know what they say :)) that you use a bit of FMA, considering your bali passion. To try and stay 'knifey', what kind of blades were you pitting your balisong skills against? What have you learned about the grip retention of your balisong? Trying to walk the edge of off-topic and On Target (and failing miserably :D)

I was thinking pictures of these "atom" thingies that ExamonLyf was talking about... I think a big magic marker and a bunch of construction paper are in order for this one!;) :D

MAN...WHAT THE HECK IS YOUR PROBLEM....I COME ON HERE..AND START A FRIENDLY THREAD....BEING SOME ONE WHO STUDIES MARTIAL ARTS(muay thai, Brazilian jui jitsu) i was curious about knife fights.....that's all....and i wasn't making assumptions....you need to cut the attitude cause i was just trying to ask a simple question.....that's all

I had already started the whole molecular work-up with edible crayons??? Now you want "magic markers"???

Hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving...and -CONTENDER-???

Just a tad of advice which I'm sure you are eagerly awaiting  !

When you initiate a thread (in any Forum)...it may be better to be a little more more thoughtful...about "STYLE".., rather than backing your pick-up through the garage door.., ignoring the possibility of getting out and opening the door first. The folks in here are all extremely nice, straight forward folks that share a common interest, ideas, and some disagreement from time to time..., but with CLASS....and a sense of belonging because of our interests.

Your original post.., no matter how you frame it.., was not "friendly".., but rather awkward and confrontational.

After being asked about the placement of your post...you replied...

YOUR RIGHT...I COULD HAVE...BUT I DIDN'T

Another "friendly" gesture...followed by...

NO HOSTILITY INTENDED...

You then implied that because you haven't yet aquainted yourself with some of the more eclectic forms of martial artistry, that such things as knife fighting seminars are a questionable practice. <~~ This may be a stretch, and not at all what you intended in saying...

i study martial arts...but never heard of KNIFE fighting as one...

It is certainly not as big a s-t-r-e-t-c-h as your last post...

....I COME ON HERE..START A FRIENDLY THREAD...BEING SOMEONE THAT STUDIES MARTIALS ARTS....

Now that....is a real whopper!! :barf:

As I mentioned, there are lots of nice folks here, and all around the Blade Forums in general. Also.., there is a tremendous amount knowledge to gain no matter what your age.

Instead of getting in a pissing contest concerning information you haven't encountered yet.., why not take advantage of the knowledge available and give some consideration to how you approach that adventure???

Couldn't hurt to much???

I don't know Pete, but I'm willing to bet that a wound to his pride would hurt more than what he would have sustained in a knife sparring match.

Contender: FYI, knife fighting is also very common in Wu Ja Pai (Tiger Claw) Kung Fu, the one I studied, as well as several other Southern Chinese Kung Fu styles.

Plus, there's always the Western arts: do a Google search on Rex Applegate, Mike Echanis, David Steele, James Keating and Chris Caracci for starters.

Have fun.

THANK YOU TONY...that's all i was asking for...a response like that.....and i don't know what this "CLASS" thing is....i wasn't being a dick.....if that's what it sounded like...then i'm sorry...but being rude back only fuels the fire....and i believe that the people are nice....so that's why my "PRIDE" is not hurt right now....no big deal.....

In places like this perception is reality. You may not mean anything by it but something as seemingly harmless as the caps lock on, will piss some people off. I think what they are trying to tell you here is walk softly, and the off topic stuff, they hate that…

So no matter what you mean when you write something if it’s perceived as rude, then it is. That’s the reality of this thing. Be cool
