Gonna get a new knife

Got some extra cash, so thought I'd get a new blade. I have about $200 to spend. Here are my picks:

1. REKAT Sifu - Awesome knife, now discontinued. I live in Texas, where I could legally carry it, so size isn't an issue. I've heard the rolling locks are iffy, though. Comments? I really like this one, and since it is being discontinued, I'm leaning towards it.

2. Microtech LCC - Heard nothing but good stuff about these. Love the overall design.

3. Emerson Commander - Again, nothing but good stuff about these. If I got one, I'd wanna get one of the 2002 models.

4. Al Mar SERE - This is a great little folder. Rock solid. I just really don't care for the clip placement, but could probably get past it.

5. Benchmade806D2 - AFCK with D2 steel and "super strong Axis lock". Love the design of the knife, and the Axis is a great lock.

The knife would be used for daily utility/chores. Last ditch self defense if absolutely needed. Thanks for any input!

I have the LCC and SERE 2000. I agree with everyone else who says that they are gret knives. I like the looks of the LCC a little better, CF scales and Ti bolsters, just have a more dressy appearance than textured G10. That said the SERE is also a great knife, very comfortable in my hands. It opens and closes very smoothly, almost like my Sebenza.

I just ordered a Commander, after hearing good things about it. I also got it because of the neat toy factor with the wave, and recurve edge. hopefully I will get it by the end of the week, and can give you some more helpful information on it.

Right now if I had to choose between those knives, I would probably go for the LCC. I believe the dressier appearance is a little more friendly to those not in the know. BUT, if you don't care about what others think, and just need an awsome rock solid folder to use and abuse, go for the SERE.

You have some excellent choices there. Sounds like you really like the AFCK. If you do, and you can get past the BT2 :barf: that would be one I would recommend first. All of the knives you mention are first rate so I'm just saying this based on the fact that you love the design.

Next, I would say the SERE 2000. Like you said "rock solid". VG-10 steel, locks up like a vault. I'm not crazy about the clip placement either, thats why I got Gary Graley to custom make me a sheath for it.

Next, the LCC. Microtech did a good job on these. Excellent quality for a production folder. I prefer the titanium bolsters to the newer aluminum ones though. Fit and finish are typical Microtech, excellent.

It is a toss up between the Commander and Sifu. The Sifu is discontinued, you don't hear much from REKAT these days. I am not
[check message length]sure how customer service would end up on the Sifu if you ever needed it. The rolling lock is plenty tough. I love the design of the Commander. If I were picking one of your choices based on design alone it would be the Commander. I anticipate getting flamed for this but I have not been impressed with the ones I have had. Hopefully the new models have addressed several issues, but I have a hard time getting over the ones I had. The problems they had weren't major mind you, mostly things like the blade rubbing the liners, blade not staying closed, etc. If I tightened the pivot to solve the other problems it was a bitch to open. Still I felt they shouldn't have happened on knives that cost as much $$$ as the Commander. I do love the design though. I would say if you got a good one you would be OK. And Emerson has excellent customer service.
Decisions, decisions.

Those are all great knives, but I would recommend the Sifu as your next purchase. I think the lock problems have been badly overstated. The Sifu is a great design. Pick one up and make it your EDC. I carry a Sifu as mine.

What exactly do you want this knife for? EDC? Just to have and carry on occasion? That would make a difference to me. If it is just getting a cool new knife to carry some of the time, but not rely on for EDC I would go with the Sifu. If it was EDC I would go with the 806 or Commander. I would get these over the Sere 2000 because you said that you were not a fan of the clip placement. I have an 806 and that thing is smooth and locks up nice and tight. I have played with a Commander and those things feel pretty solid to me and are gorgeous (IMO). The wave is also fun, but your pockets might disagree. Thats my two cents. Have fun with your decision and let us know what its gonna be.

I have a 806 and a LCC. Both are very good knives and I like them both. I think that the 806 might hold an edge a little longer due to the D2 steel. The Axis lock is rock solid. The LCC is very very well built for a production knife IMO. I like the handle shape a little better than the 806 and it cuts better I think. If I were going to get a knife off of your list it would be the LCC, but just because I like it better personally not that the 806 isn't a great knife. I would get it second.

my personal fav right now is the axis AFCK, a heckuva knife imho, not a whole lot to fault w/it

the MT LCC is another one of my favs, get one w/the CFhandles/ti bolsters though

the waved commander is, w/out a doubt, the fasyest deploying knife on the market imho......not a bad choice at all

the sifu is great as long as the lock works good, and , imho, the sifu suffers from more lock probs than any other rekat, why? dont know - BUT if REKAT aint around, who's gonna fix it if ya have probs?? pat crawford?? not cheap i bet...........would ONLY buy a SIFU if i knew the person who had it/couldexamine it first....a good knife when working properly/a bad one if not it will cut the pi$$ outta ya when ity fold up, BTDT

no al mars so cant comment on that one

my choice wouod be BM axis AFCK, commmander, MT LCC, sifu, in that order

sifu

I just got a new LCC and of your choices it will be IMHO the most
knife for the amount of money spent.Descriptions and specs don't
do it justice till you have it in your hand.

Get yourself a REKAT Sifu. That knife is a MONSTER, and it's MY favorite folder!!...One of MY 2 "EDC's".:).
