Yangdu, our inventory control expert, tells me we have only two khukuris left in house from shop 2 -- British Army Service models -- and they are blems. Here they are:

This one has a fairly rare gray horn handle with nice streaking. The thing that makes this knife a blem is some minor chipping (see arrow) of the handle where it meets the buttcap. Scabbard has two minor scratches on the back. Blade is done by village kami and is very good. Finish also very good. HI guarantee goes with this rig.

This one has a grain streak (see arrow) in the handle that looks like a crack but isn't. Scabbard has small hole (see arrow) where stitching stretched the leather and two scratches. Blade excellently made by village kami. Finish very good. HI Guarantee goes with this rig, also.

If anyone is interested in either or both of the khukuris at $75 email me.

Forgot. Top is SN 15. Bottom 18.

Will send out USPS MO to you in this PM's mail for SN #15, the one with the grey/brown streaked horn. You should have it in tomorrow's mail. Got the excuse for wife that Sat is my birthday - have to take advantage of a good excuse, you know.

Ok, Clay. I'll contact you via personal email.

Gone. There will be more so keep watching for next post.

Crud! I always miss the the ones I can afford. Doh!

Bill,

These are the British Army Service? Those look like different butt caps than the traditional ones. Are these the flats you were trying so hard to get?

Marcus,

Check out the thread(s) on village khukhuri's. They are lower in price and reviews have been favorable.

Goat, those are BAS from shop 2. The buttcaps are STILL the traditional but the scroolwork at shop 2 is not as well defined as it is at shop 1.

We will find you something, Marcus. Gelbu tells me he will be shipping some more village models soon. I am not sure if our shop 2 village kamis made these or if they were brought in from various villages -- but I'll find out, probably this weekend.

Have the shop 2 BAS now. Love the handle coloring, with streaks of brown/caramel thru a medium grey base. Interestingly, these shop 2 chakma and karda are long as, and in the knife's (karda's?)case a full half inch longer overall than the khukuri's handle, with just the blade on the karda being as long as the blade on my old Spyderco Endura ( 3&3/4" blade, 5&3/4" overall w/ handle ). Just measured the chakma at 3&1/4" steel, 5&1/4" overall. Now that's a serious size little utility knife and not a bad size steel! However, the chakma and karda that came with the shop 1 BAS are only about a half inch shorter, and their handles are nicely streaked grey, while the bigger shop 2 chakma and karda handles are good solid black like the shop 1 BAS handle. So I swapped them around. Grey handled shop 2 BAS now has grey handled chakma and karda, black handled shop I BAS now has black horn handled chakma and karda.

Meant to ask, since you said the grey horn was fairly rare, is that because the kamis only want to use solid black horn for some reason, maybe traditional, or because most horn available just turns out to be black as a rule. My dad had a machete used in Venezuela in the 1910'and 20's by an uncle and it had grey-greenish horn handles that were supposed to be water buffalo. Personally I like varigated color handles, makes each knife different. Rusty

Thanks Bill. I`ve been following this forum daily since it was first on KF and I`ve learned a TON. I have a custom 12" bowie that I use for chopping now but I`d like to step up to a big khukri. I`d really like an 18" AK but the budget doesn`t allow. Doh.

Hi Rusty:

I wish I could get mail service everywhere like the service you and I get between Hawthorne and Reno! Another dream.

I think the buffalo horn is generally black so that's why we get it. Dr. Rosenthal, the collector who donated his khukuri collection to the National Knife Museum, for several years had a standing order for "gray" horn handles. He was such a good customer we used to search for the gray horn for him. We found one that was opaque, you could actually see the tang inside if you held the knife up to the light, and that was his favorite. I'm guessing that we see maybe one gray horn in every 30 or 40 knives.

And, Marcus, I sent you some personal email which should help.

Ayiaiaiiii !!! Another favorite. They're ALL my favorites !!!

What did you expect, Uncle Bill, when I'm the guy who came up with the currently popular (HIKV ) designation for the insanity?

I got the BAS on the bottom from Bill, but I decided to send it back so I can afford the Hanuman model I have been wanting for a long time. This is an excellent khukuri. I actually like this one better than my shop one BAS, as this one has a thicker handle and slightly wider blade than the one I have. The handle blem is hardly noticeable as is the hole in the scabbard.

Anyways, this one is up for grabs again. It is a really great deal. I am shipping it back to Bill this afternoon, but if someone lets me know they want it before 4:00 PM or so, I will ship it directly to them.

PS please send email to both Bill and myself if interested.

Thanks, Bill!

The BAS is $75, btw. I know it was listed above but I thought I would repost it.
