I am thinking of ordering one and the store is selling it without sheath. I am looking for a good tactical style sheath any recommendations?

The one that comes with the knife normally is excellent, or the Sharpshooter Leather sheath is grea.

Well, the regular RC-4 sheath with the MOLLE back especially, is about as "tactical" as it gets. All the components are available at the RAT cutlery site, but will no doubt be cheaper if you order the knife with the sheath.

There's also the Spec-Ops sheaths if you're a pouch on the sheath kind of guy.

I have never abused a sheath like I did this one. Arizona Deserts, California Deserts, Peruvian Jungle, and one is going to Afghanistan soon too!

Here are pics of the standard RC-4 sheaths. Kydex fits snug and can be adjusted with the enclosed screws. Like it tight - make it so (you must envision the Star Trek captain saying this). Like it lose - make it so.

At first I wasn't sold on the fact that it didn't have a tek-lock. Jeff and Mike educated us that all you need to do is thread the paracord through the holes and make your own belt loops. This works excellent, and holds the knife tight to your body. Also, if you just want to shove the knife in your pocket - the lack of a big integrated loop cuts down on bulk.

The other great think about the RAT-supplied sheaths is the 'push-off'. Each of their sheaths have aboue 1/2" of extra material on each side that you use your thumb to push the knife from the sheath while grasping the handle. Works great!

Get one with the sheath. It is one of the best things about the knife. It fits perfectly, can be adjusted for tension, won't retain, moisture, easily attached. I wish my other knives had such a sheath. I really can't say enough about the fit and finish and function of the kydex sheath.

I have a Tec-Loc on my RC-3 and didn't know of this trick. Is there a written description somewhere or pictures that will show the proper way to run the paracord? And do you know what that black fastener is called and where I can buy additional ones?

Thanks!

There is a link somewhere about the proper set up the sheath. I used the paracord supplied with the sheath. It also had the spring clasp with it. You can usually steal one of these things off any stuff sack bag.

Anyhow, take a look at the top two photos - it isn't hard. Only the 2nd and 3rd holes from the top need be used to form the belt loop. The other threading of the paracord in my pic is just to stuck the excess cord away and not have it flapping around.
