Got a Military and love it

I had started threads to help me decide between the Military and Starmate. I finally got the chance to handle them both, and while I'd been almost sure of the Starmate beforehand, I chose the plainedge Military.

I love the strong tip, and overall design of the Starmate, but to me the Military just "felt" better. I liked the slight curve that the design has which means the cutting edge is positioned easier for cutting. I like the full flat grind, and the curve of the belly is just right. The lockup for me is perfect, still to the left but fully engaged on the tang.

Thanks for all the suggestions to my "Military or Starmate?" thread.

It took me forever to finally get my Military. My main delay was I couldn't decide either plain or serrated edge......I went with serrated cause it fits my cutting tasks well. After holding it once I knew this was the "one". Enjoy it!

You just "think" its over. You have at least two pocketses.

I traded my first plainedged Military for a Spyderedged one, and went with the smooth version of the Starmate. Everything was "Hunky-Dory" until the Spyderco Forum Military came along. Must have been fate that I made room for a plainedge Military.

I call it Kismet, my wife calls it the curse.

Hi James Y!
I am not surprised that you chose Military. As I said in your previous post "Military or Starmate", once you hold those two in your hands, there is no competition.

Congrats on your purchase. I got a Military before the Starmate was born. It's still my favorite, but I carry both it and my Starmate pretty much daily. Buy the Starmate too; you won't regret it!

Hey, everyone!

Yeah, there will probably be a Starmate in my future. But in my side-to-side comparison I kept going back to the Military due to its comfort and shape.

Of course, it cuts like crazy. I thought with its large handle-to-blade ratio it would be uncomfortable clipped to the pocket, but not so. Even when I sit it's barely noticeable.

Another thing I like about both knives is the blade pivot sits virtually flush with the handles, and the recessed liner is very sturdy.

Congrats!

I first wanted a Military when I got my Endura 98 and thought WOW! Cool but expensive...

Then I ordered a fully serrated model in CPM440V. The ATS-34 model arrived, so I sent that back

Then a year ago or so I get a CPM 440V model plain edge! Love it. Then a few days ago I got the inlay model! WOO HOO!

I have noticed a couple of things...

The liner ramp is now no longer polished it has a grey finish instead!

The handle is more grip you back! It feels more secure in my hand!

The liner lock does not open as far, with my older model it comes to about 60-65% to the right. The way that it is attached inside looks different as well. On my old model, the liner is 'up' from the recess by at least another inch than my inlay model. Not sure if this means my old model liner is coming unstuck or if the new one is over glued? Anyway no compaints here!

Anyone else notice this?
