Got a new battle scar for war with myself... check it out.

Dude... that sucks on both the knife and finger issue. I hope it heals favorably!

eh.. stitches.. must be a big cut. So what happened, you forced the blade to close and you got caught? Good luck healing

That's a rough story. Massage the finger daily, as that can help stimulate the nerves. I had a similar type cut on my big toe at one time. It was numb for about a year and a half. Massaging it daily eventually helped bring it back. Hope all turns out well. :D

Thanks guys.

After contacting CS about the knife, they said that they need my reciept sent to them with the knife. I don't have a reciept. It sounds like they won't look at it without one. Too bad they don't have a R.A.T. Cutlery style warranty department. This thing would have been fixed and back in my pocket by now.

edit: I sent them an email asking if a printout of my Ebay transaction would be good enough. I'm hoping so.

Ok. CS is being cool. They said that I can jut print out a copy of my transaction and send that with the knife. I was starting to worry that they were going to get all Ontario on my ass. (hahaha thats a great warranty phrase) lol

I never will understand the mentality of most companies. Most companies automatically assume that the customer is dishonest, thus the reason they have all this "non-transferable" "must fill out a warranty card" "must have a receipt" bullshit. I throw that kind of junk away when I get a new toy. If it breaks the company ought to stand behind it simply because it's their product. Mike and I set our warranty up on how we want to be treated as a customer. If I buy a widget from a company and intentionally break it, I couldn't live with myself if I lied to them and said it broke under normal use. On the other hand, if it does break under normal use or even going somewhat past "normal" then I expect the company to stand behind their shit. Simple. Honest company, honest customers.

Well I shipped my knife off to Cold Steel's warranty department along with a printout of my transaction and a letter explaining "what went wrong" per their request. We'll see how it comes back. For effect, I taped my hospital bracelet to the box. hahaha. I really hope they fix my knife. I think I'm being pretty cool considering that in this day and age, a whole bunch of other people would have called the hot coffee from Starbucks lawyer. lol

Amen

Sorry for the delay.

The pictures just don't do it justice. This digit looked like a baked potato split open.

This is precisely why I'm going to sell my Ontario RAT knives and continue to buy RAT Cutlery knives. Any monkey can sell you something. What keeps you coming back is the service that the company provides by backing their products.

I took my stitches out this morning. I figured a doctor wouldn't do anything special so I just took them out myself. Save myself a trip. One more use for the tweezers in my SAK.

That was my first time taking them out myself. Felt pretty weird pulling those little guys out.

Definitely a bad place on the finger to get cut.

QUICK UPDATE:

CS Warranty department finally sent me a new knife. It arrived yesterday. I'm happy that they did what I asked and tested the new knife before they sent it to me to ensure that I got a perfect one, but I'm not too happy about how long it took to get it back. Oh well. At least I have it and it all worked out. Now that I have one that works great, I love it. Great knife. It has become one of the EDC's. Now my EDC group is the Leatherman, the RC-4, and my Recon 1.

Also, the cut is looking much better. Now it just looks like a good scab with some cracks. The meat under the damaged skin healed well. The skin got Foxtrot Uniform Bravo Alpha Romeo, but it'll be fine. I've gotten a little bit of the movement back, but it does seem pretty bad. It won't go all the way straight. When I straighten all of my fingers, it stays at about 20 degrees and it doesn't bend very much. It's better than it was though. I think with time, it'll get much better. I hate that it's numb though. Man is that weird. I just can't get used to it. It's not it's not even part of me. I really hope that at least some of the feeling comes back.

I had a CRKT liner lock fail on me once and I cut my hand to the bone. I was pushing down on the tip of the knife pressing through some abs plastic to cut a hole for wires for a sterio job i was doing. The lock gave and the knife slammed shut on the meat of my hand that you would use for impact doing a karate chop. It took 8 stitches and I have never got the feeling back in my pinky or that side of my hand above the cut. It is a weird sensation not feeling anything. I will never own a CRKT again due to that injury i now carry Benchmade and Rat Cutlery. Hope you heal up soon thats a rough finger so do with out.

... I will never own a CRKT again due to that injury i now carry Benchmade and Rat Cutlery...

I don't want to sound hars or anything, and I really feel sorry for your injury and I hope the nerves end up healling fully.

That said, what you should have never done is pushing a blade against its lock! Lock, just like any other mechanical gizmos, can and do fail ocasionally. I have a Colt AR-15 backlock folder that snaps if you exert much pressure in the back of the blade. Not long ago I was talking about friction folders (no lock) with someone here in the forum and we both agreed that as long as you use the knife for cutting, you don't have to worry about having a lock. I am sure we all have used FF (Opinels without the viroblock for example) at one time or another. We just should treat all the folders (featuring a lock or not) as FF. If we need to screw arround, use a fixed blade.

Sorry for the rant liljon,
Mikel
