Went ahead and got a new vehicle. Stripped down Ford Ranger with stick shift. Has crank windows (didn't know they still made them without power windows).
A fun little truck and decent gas milage. Having alot of fun driving this one. Had to get a tool box for it as there is no storage in the small cab. Like the old style look
- same design for alot of years.
Anyone else drive a small pick up?

This is too small for me (currently) because I have kids. Someday, though, after they're all grown up I'd like to get a little truck like this.

The thing that would make it perfect would be a light diesel engine for gas mileage. Sadly, given California's emission controls, I don't think that's ever going to happen.

My kids are all adults (legally anyway) and the three oldest boys are out of the house. Only a daughter at home and she has her own car. So it is just me and the wife or me and my dog. I have a larger truck that is for towing the camper so it just sits in the driveway now. I was lucky to get 8 mpg with it.

I have a Ranger Supercab. Had em for about 16 years. One with 5 speed stick.
The newer one with auto/trans. They have been great for me. Next truck will be full sized supercab due to the three growing boys. I can only fit two in the cab now. Probably miss the gas mileage but what can I do.

That's a pretty, little truck. Nice blue. Good proportions.

At 200,000 miles, my F150 is ready for upgrading. But it still runs well and new trucks are so dang expensive that I'm hesitant to make the leap. Last year I considered quite seriously buying a full-size SUV, like a Lincoln Navigator, since they were depreciated cheaper than pickups. But I just can't live without an exterior cargo bed.

The new F150 is darned sharp, and both the Ranger and F150 are consistently ranked among the highest quality trucks in their classes. The other truck that really excites me is the Lincoln Mark LT. Maybe in a couple of years I can afford a used one. ;)

The new Toyotas run great too, but they're so dang uncomfortable...

I'd be curious in reading which other trucks you test drove before purchasing, and what made you finalize on the Ford.

I drive a 2001 Toyota Tacoma a lot, because it gets way better gas mileage than my FJ.
You can see it in the reflection. (Sorry I don't have a picture of it) Been a great little truck and it's got 99,000 on it never had any problems at all. Keep the oil changed with Mobil 1 synthetic and I've installed synthetic gear lube in the transmission and rear end. Runs and drives like new and it's paid for.

Congrats on the new pickup. I really like the color. CRANK WINDOWS

I had a Nissan standard cab back in 1982. It was the only small pickup I've owned.. It was a great little truck, it just had zero leg room and couldn't haul anything.
I've always had extended cab or crew cab 4x4's. Current I've got an 02 Dodge x-cab 3/4 ton 4x4 with the Cummins I bought new in 02. It just turned 100,000 miles and I will probably have it another 5 or 10 years.
It would be hard for me to go back to a little pickup, I like big heavy frames and lots of leg room :D.

My last truck was a regular cab w/crank windows like yours- I love that look! I got tired of no "indoor" storage and got a 2005 Tacoma 4x4- great truck!

Crank windows. Might be OK in a Ranger, but in a larger truck it'd be impossible to reach across to turn the crank. And the opposite in my car, there's no room to turn a crank - you'd have perpetually bruised legs. :)

A couple of things I really miss that trucks used to have, fresh air floor vents and triangular side window-vents.

Just got rid of my Ranger 4x4. It was 2.9 4cyl. 5 speed club cab 1988. Over 188 thousand on it and ran great. Really liked it but with my hip replacements could no longer handle the clutch. Rangers are good solid trucks.

I just clicked over 100,000 miles with my 02 Ranger. It is the only brand new vehicle I've ever bought. Its an FX4 with a five speed and 4.0 liter six. It has been a great truck, but I have put a fair amount of money into repairs over the years. 4.0 Rangers are not good on gas though. I've gotten 17 mpg for most of those miles. I've gotten as high as 21 on a long trip and as low as 15 during the winter when there is a lot of 4WD use (and idling warm ups).

Crank windows are great! One thing I hate about power windows is that they always break with the window down right before a rain storm!!!!

I used to have a base model 03 F150. crank windows, manual locks and mirrors, cloth seats, vinyl floors, manual transmission. I loved that truck, but now I have an 05 silverado z71 with all the bells and whistles

I'm driving a 02 Ranger extended cab (I'm 6'7"). I got a great deal on it new in 03. 4 liter v6, 2wd, and auto (I have long legs, operating a clutch is awkward for me). Gas mileage isn't great for my city driving.

i got a similar set up. 5spd ,4cyl, crank windows, new audio deck, westin bull bar, hella fog lights, K&N cold air intake, kobalt toll box. i like it. maybe 320 miles to a tank of gas. i NEED 4wd tho:( supped up toyota tacoma after i graduate for sure:D

Currently trying to get this beauty out of my driveway:

I now drive a much nicer 1993 Extended cab 4x4 Ranger. I didn't like Ford all that much until I bought my first Ranger. I've been lovin' them for the past few years.

A couple of things I really miss that trucks used to have, fresh air floor vents and triangular side window-vents.

I hadn't thought of floor vents in years! And I'd pay extra for vent windows.

I like the Ranger, my dad has two, but I could never get used to the stiffness of the clutch. His automatic is a nice driver though.

I've got a 95 Tacoma 4WD standard cab with a 5 speed. Manual everything. It's got 225K on it so it'll be upgraded as soon I can afford the upgrade. I'm thinking full size extra cab Chevy 4WD. My dad just bought one and my five year old declared it "an Awesome truck!"

The last truck I've seen with floor vents was my '92 Dodge. The floor vents were about the last functional part the truck after 40,000 miles.

My '94 F150 still has the triangular window vents. I don't think they're even an option any more.

I personally hate the Ford Ranger. I owned a 1991 and it was nothing but hell. Everything on it broke all the time despite my attempts at keeping a close eye and hand on maintenance. Luckily, I got in an accident and it was totalled. I replaced it with a 1999 Silverado. I am much happier except for the fact that I didn't really want power accessories. My driver's window is ghetto-rigged closed until I have the cash to throw for a new window guide cable. I am strongly debating investing the funds to convert to manual doors on this one. It only has 150k and will easily take a few more miles before it needs replacing...
