Well after arguing with myself for a week over whether or not I needed a new pocket-sized flashlight, I decided to head over to WalMart and pick up a Brinkmann LX. For only $20, I figured this was a deal I shouldn't miss, especially considering many on the internet report their WalMarts running out of these.

After a quick playing-with and comparison, I've got some comments to post.

handle: machined aluminum, which I love. the grippy rubber is nice, but the handle is too short for any really secure grip. considering I'm using this as a pocket light and not a tactical weapon, this shouldn't be too much of a problem.

light quality: I'm really impressed with how freaking bright this thing is. It outshone my photon 2, my Arc AAA, my maglite AA (no surpirse there), and my lightwave 4000. It throws an unusual beam. It's tight and compact like an LED, but also gives off soft background light like an incandescent bulb. The best way to describe the color of the Xenon bulb would be to say it's like a very white very bright incandescent bulb.

batteries: My one regret over this light is that it takes 123A batteries which are heinously expensive. That will probably keep my use of it to a minimum.

overall quality and feel: This light feels solid! One of my favorite parts about it is just how secure and tough it feels in the hand. I'd definitely advise everybody to pick one up. Even if you have some Surefires or other high end light, this thing would make a kickin' backup.
