Got bit by my HEST, bloody photo warning

Well, just got back from the ER.... heh.... I was cord wrapping my hest in the sheath, was wrapping it really tight, I guess too tight, and it came out of the sheath, and got my thumb pretty bad. I drove to the er, and they gave me 9 stitches. First stitches I ever got. I got home about 30 minutes ago, and finished wrapping the handle, luckly, without another trip to the ER. I took the first photo when I was sitting waiting for stitches, and the last one about 5 minutes ago...

However, I did take the hest out yesterday to the local river and did a lot of whittling with it, and it works great! Even the girlfriend whittled for a half hour with it, first time I ever saw her pick up a blade and not be incredibly scared of it. She said "this knife is cool!", shes finally getting it! I guess I can never get rid if it now, were blood brothers, right?

Your thumb looks like crap, but at least your HEST looks good.

Kirk sorry to hear and see that:thumbup::thumbdn::confused: LOL I to came close one time with a ax( not good) 5stitches:eek:

A little super glue and some duck tape would have fixed that right up. ;)
Okay. I never got the superglue thing. I get the duct tape thing, buthow do you do the superglue thing? Do you hold the wouldn close and use a finger/thumb to spead superglue across the surface, or do you try to run a bead of superglie along the lip of the wound, or do you squirt superglue into the wound and bond the flesh? Has anyone actually done this?

I have no sensation in my forefinger on my left hand because I cut it through to the bone one time and used a patch of t'shirt and duct tape to bind it up. The nerve endings never fused together right, so occasionally I have phantom pains by 99% of the time, just a strange detatched numbness, kinda similar to touching things after dipping your finger in superglue.

First time with stitches. You must look after yourself pretty well.

Kirk, glad you are OK.
Nice clean cut I assume?;)
That is one way to force a "plasma patina" on the edge!
Get better.

Hummm, I think I just coined a new catch phrase????

The knife is officially yours now. Getting bitten by a newly acquired knife is the equivalent of shaking the hand of a used car salesman and saying "I'll take it."

Nice... I really like that... seems true from my personal experience. I'm hoping my RC-6 doesn't take off a finger though.... that's easily my first big fixed blade.

I still feel stupid though, sucks..... I keep thinking if I paid more attention to where my hand was I would have been ok. I think what really dug into my thumb was the wire break notch, where the edge starts. It came VERY sharp out of the box, but I did a reprofile yesterday to make it easier for me to touch up the edge if need be, so now its redciulously sharp. Thanks for all your comments! Here is a crappy cell phone pic of the finished paracord. The glossy-ness of the blade is the tuff glide treatment I just did on it.

At least you were getting to know your new knife a little better in the process, I've cut myself numerous times with nearly every knife I've owned, it's all a learning process, certain jobs with certain blades will certainly spill blood.

I got to get one of those, not the cut, the HEST... Been there had 8 stitches from a kershaw blur. I feel your pain.

Wow I guess that beats my 4.... that hest is wicked sharp and cut my finger pulling it from the sheath as well. I guess the design is just kinda prone to cutting yourself if you're not careful. I love it to bits though.

Do not feel like a Lone Ranger. While wrapping my Izula, the knife came out of the sheath and jabbed into the palm of my hand. Too fast to know it happened, then the blood and pain. About 1/2 inch at the surface of the puncture (so the scare measures). Healed up fine with my own care.

Just a warning for the uninformed.... RC KNIVES COME SHARP FROM THE FACTORY...... BE SAFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
