So I was sitting on the couch and I was tired of wrapping the Izula I got for christmas. I kept trying new things or I would use it and the knot would come loose, etc. I dont like the Izula just plain but I havnt had the money to buy the scales yet (bought the ESEE 6 instead!). I also wanted a way to keep the fire starter with it, so I pulled out the heat shrink tubing and came up with this. It is surprisingly comfortable, but im not sure how the rubber will grip in hard use, especially in wet conditions. I may just keep this one in my B.O.B and go buy another. Damn this ESEE addiction is expensive.

BTW - love the 6, I have used it several times now and its great. Need the ESEE folder and the SS ESEE 4 though! Can't wait for you guys to start making them!

Nice. I wrapped my little ferro in the cord, which made it difficult to retrieve if needed. Your idea is much better.

Nice work, very practical!

P.S. I totally agree on your blade preferences, but I add the SS ESEE-6 to my wish list! ;)

Mine is wrapped to the sheath itself. Still not the easiest removal, but not impossible either.

Thanks guys. I tried it out several times today and it functioned quite well. i definitely dig the beefier feel of the wrap than just the Izula with no handles. I does show up quite a bit more now when on my belt and under my shirt, but im wearing a jacket most of the time, so not a big deal

Still need to test this under wet conditions. I will say that it made it a lot nicer when working with gloves though.

Cool idea! I really like that. That's kinda how the new Laser Strike will work. Under the micarta will be a long hollowed out area that will house a starter just like that. So when you need it, just undo the screw and swing open the scale and out pops your firesteel. I think it's a great idea on Jeff and Mikes behalf!

I took a rubber tube over my para wrapped Izula, then took real light sand paper to it to "rough" it up and the grip really improved, especially in wet conditions.
