Got my 15" AK...it's my first. Have a few questions.

I'd like to know where to get a good razor strop too, i use an old belt.

The short AK is a compromise between weight and use. As is the BAS.

By cracks in the cho, do you mean little cut marks?

A sharpening expert is Yvsa.

The blunt tool is for burnishing, a method of trueing the blade's edge and preserving the usefull life of the same between sharpenings.

There was recently discussion of what to do about sheaths, one of the idea's was too loose; get it wet and let it shrink to fit.

many of your questions can be answered by doing a 'search' or by going to Khukuri Faqs.

Tree - several have tightened a loose scabbard by gluing a piece of leather inside, just below the top, where the black leather ends. One poster thinned a piece from an old belt, and shaved it to a useble thickness.

Other things got in the way, but I have intended to contact these folks for a possible Kydex sheath:

Cracks around the cho aren't expected, but aren't rare, either. I've never heard of one causing a failure.

I got a fairly useable strop from a local barber shop - enough to mount on a block of wood.

Check Howard's FAQ (Maintainance pages) for sharpening supplies and methods - there is a link onany of Uncle's posts.

The little blunt knife ain't a knife - it is a chakma or chakmak - an edge steel, for re-aligning the edge. Saves steel, as opposed to stoning it every time.

I'm not up on the kami's marks, but I think (HA) if the flag points are pointing toward the spine, it is Kesar. They poited toward the bolster when Durba used the mark.

Thanks for the help.

Flag is pointed toward what would be the hilt...is this were a western knife. I've got 4 hairline cracks. 2 wide enough to hang my fingernail in. No biggy.

Thanks to you both.

OK, here's the flags on my Kesar and the pole they swing from is directly below the cho and points right to it.

How about that? the forum program crushed my flag! Oh well. The flag pole points to the cho and the flags point to the edge side below the cho and a little down.

I tried again- no good. I'd have to fill all space in and to the left of the flags for this to work.

Munk, I love it. When I try to do something a little fancy is always backfires. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

Hang in!!!!!!!!
