Yesterday my AK arrived. It was a late Dessein tang failure for those who don't remember. I had sent it to Samurai Dave for repair and I'm glad I did.

In addition to repairing the tang, Dave sealed up a crack in the handle that has been there about as long as I've had the khuk. The only thing left of it is a black streak. It looks good with the superglue finish and you can't even feel any difference in texture.

The bolster and buttcap are a dull shine where I can barely see my reflection in them. I was thinking about polishing them up, but now that I think about it, they contrast nicely with the handle.

The only fly in the ointment is a tiny fold in the blade right below the tip. The khuk must have taken a hit somewhere along the way. Sometime during Spring Break I'll work it out and give the khuk a workout too.

Dave, thanks for all your help and efforts. I truly appreciate them.

A tang failure is not fatal and now the knife is actually better than new. I'm glad to see it back in the field.

Just got in from a 7 hour bus ride from the AF base in Little Rock Arkansas..

SkagSig,
I got a shop to weld the tang back on. Just boiled the wood off then epoxy the thing back on.

Bob,
The nick in the tip of the blade was there when I got it. I thought the blade hit a rock or something when the tang snapped. The last 1/4" of the blade was bent/chipped when I got it and I (gently hammered it straight on a cloth covered brick.
Yours is the first one I have put completely back together, I am glad you like it. Thanks for the good report. :)

Dave, you're soon going to be qualified for BirGorkha -- 40 cents an hour and all the rice you can eat.

And my parents said that my college education would pay for itself in all due time!!! $.40 an hour and all the rice I can eat YYYYEEEEEEEHHHHHAAAAAA!!!

Pounding hot steel by day, whackin Mao's little buddys by night, SuperDave is going to Nepal!!!

Dave,

Given the cost of living in Nepal, that might be a pretty good deal. You just have to be careful not to take on too many wives.

And therein lies the problem -- with all those Kareenas running around it's hard to have just one.
