Even though I expected beefy knives I wasn't prepared for this much beef!! Yet the hair popped off my arm! Must be that convex grind. I was going to test them out fishing but didn't catch any fish. I did have to cut the giant worms up to put on my hook and the coot performed admirable!
I made a forked stick to hold my pole with the CT. The balance makes it chop easy! I opened the coot first and when I was done ogleing it I held the CT. The big blade is sharp, stout, and heavy. It rides well in it's sheath though. My western bowie (looks nice, dulls fast, sharpens hard) seems like a toy after handleing the CT.
Everyone I showed them to commented on how heavy they were. Oh, and that sheath!! I really love the CT sheath! My snaps were tight so I did a "modification". I can't leave anything alone! The leather coot sheath rides high and snug. I'm going to be the envy of the hunt club next year!!
I used 400 grit sandpaper and my sharpmaker to do unneeded touchups. Something else I just can't resist. I failed to screw up the edge! I used the 40 degree on the sharpmaker with the white rods just a few swipes. The camp tramp was sharper near the tip, the middle/back was just barely shaving sharp (not a complaint, plenty sharp for a big knife) and seemed a tad sharper with my treatment. I'm going to wait before I sharpen them again though, I'm wary of messing up the convex grind. Besides, I have no hair on my arms now.
I love that little point! Sharp enough to be pointy but not weak! Looks darn cool too! The coot is the perfect do anything knife I think. If a person could have only one it would seem that this would be the one. In drooling over the pics, and compared to the others I didn't expect the knife to be so perfect. In the pictures the handle seems to be out of proportion to the blade but in real life the blade is beautiful! The CT and coot make a good team. Im glad got these ones first, it should hold me over till I get the BR and HR. In the pics these blades look even more substantial than theirsmaller siblings, I can only imagine what they look like in real life!
