I can’t link to the business as they aren’t an official BF supporter, but just wanted to report on a bit of joy that came my way.

We’ve had quite a year, in a positive way, and the major event was moving house. We’ve bought a house dating from 1901, and there’s been a bit of work to do, some of it still ongoing.

For several weeks recently I was a wee bit stressed, as I was slightly concerned that the best part of my knife collection had been stolen, or ‘nicked’ as we say around here. Turns out that in the chaos of moving house and then going on vacation for three weeks immediately after, and then having workmen in the house for three weeks immediately after that, I had in fact done something sensible. It required my wife to eventually remember where I had cached them... :D

Anyway, just before moving I had lost a Mcusta Tactility Damascus with Cocobolo scales. A truly beautiful knife, and for many years the best quality knife I owned by a very long way. I loved it so much I bought one for my brother. They were not cheap to buy in the UK, and only one shop sold them.

I desperately hoped that I’d find it in the move, but it was a vain hope. Even when I was worried that most of my knives had been pinched (another local word for theft), I was still thinking about that bloody Mcusta.

I’d looked a few times for places selling this now discontinued model, but the only places I could find were in the USA, and I have had issues both with vendors not being willing to ship here and with UK customs sending it back.

Enter Slovenia! I found a shop there on my umpteenth search, which specialises in Japanese cutlery, and they had two! Their website also has an English version, so Europeans and others take note. The replacement arrived today and it is just what I wanted. Their CS was also top notch.

Slovenia, I salute you! :)

So I just ordered the other one as well.

I really like those knives. :D
