Can someone tell me why the price for French Trade Axe is 3 times more than the small forest axe or carpenters axe?

I'm not looking to bash here, only to understand the justification for the difference in pricing, whne size is vistually the same. I need to understand what I am missing

Thanks in advance

PS - I ordered a couple of Ft. Turners today - The Buck and the RR - looking forward to getting them in

I think the demand for the trade axe is limited, and the process takes longer. So that keeps the price up.

At a SHOT Show a few years ago I asked that very question of the Gransfors reps. They said it was harder to forge the eye and they noted that the more limited production of the trade axe no doubt contributed to the higher cost. I responded that the tiny eye on the Mini looked like it would be MUCH harder to forge and that they'd sell a lot more trade axes at a lower price.

GB is able to sell the trade axes at the current price and they must figure that cutting the price would not increase the sales volume enough to compensate for the loss in profit on each unit. Not sure I would agree because I'd undoubtedly buy one if they were priced like their regular axes. Bottom line: I never heard a really convincing price rationale from them. Seems like it simply is what it is.

thanks DWK2 for reinforcing my thoughts. I wan't sure if the MFG process justified the diffferential or not - sounds like not

If someone will buy it - sell it:D

I'll stick with my small forest axe until the price comes down, or buy another brand

Agreed: I've got several hawks made by the late Two Hawks of Polaris Trading Co. (who was a member here) that significantly exceed the fit and finish of the GBs for similar or lower cost. Also some H & B Forge hawks that are a little rougher finish but perform well and went for a very reasonable price.

Thanks for the input on the H&B's. I ordered a couple of Ft Turners and will see how they perform when I get them. H&B is on my list to purchase later on, as well as a few others from other members here, if I'm lucky enough to purchase before others here do - gots to be quick around here
